21 Days Of Prayer & Fasting

Week One Fast: Social Media

January 1, 2024

Fasting is a tool for each one of us to take time from something we value and turn our attention to God. Using our fast to focus on God is essential. Fasting is a great way to remove distractions and center our focus on what matters most. If we want to align our hearts with God’s, we have to be able to look away from our worries and fix our eyes on him. Fasting can mean abstaining from any activity that captivates our focus in exchange for time with God.  As you refrain from social media this week, take the time and encounter God like never before! You can begin your prayers by using the acronym P.R.A.Y. Praise: Start by recognizing God's worthiness of worship and gratitude for His blessings. Repent: Reflect on your heart, repenting and turning away from anything that hinders your relationship with God. Ask: Bring your requests to God, trusting in His ability to meet your needs. Yield: Submit to God's wisdom and trust Him regardless of the outcome (Philippians 4:6-7). Praying Scripture is another powerful way to communicate with God. Scriptures like Ephesians 1:15-23, Ephesians 3:14-21, 2 Thessalonians 3:1-5, Philippians 1:9-11, and Colossians 1:9-14 offer rich prayers that you can personalize for yourself and others.

Day One

January 1, 2024

Dear Lord, I commit myself to fasting and praying for these next 21 days. I desire to grow deeper in my relationship with you and to pray and intercede for the needs of my church as well as my personal needs. I believe you hear my prayers, they don't fall on deaf ears. Holy Spirit, strip away distractions, dismantle any idols that fight for my attention, and fix my gaze solely upon you. May my hunger for Your Word and my commitment to prayer intensify during this time.  Your word tells us in Matthew 7:7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.”  I hold on to these words you spoke during this time of asking, seeking, and knocking. May Your presence be palpable, Your guidance be clear, and Your blessings overflow as we unite in prayer and fasting. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

Day Two

January 2, 2024

God, as I prioritize this time of prayer, I do so from a place of surrender. I surrender my plans, my ambitions, my ways, and I ask that Your will be done in my life. I am making more room for You to move, to speak, to heal, to reveal, and to have Your way. I pray there would be more of You and less of me. As I draw near to You, help me grow in my faith, and experience You like never before. I am expectant for all You will do! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.  “He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.” John 3:30 (NLT)

Day Three

January 3, 2024

Lord, I come to You asking for You to bring supernatural health to every one of the family relationships represented at New City. I know that there is hard work involved in truly getting along with each other, but I pray others are willing to put the work in. Reveal the areas where I need to put myself aside and walk in love, grace, forgiveness, and selflessness. May I see those in my family as You do, believing the very best in others. Help me to honor my family both in words and actions. I pray You would bring restoration and healing where it’s needed. Help us let go of things that don’t matter, and embrace the things that truly do. Thank You for leading me and guiding me as I entrust my family to You. I believe the best is yet to come for my family. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.  “You can develop a healthy, robust community that lives right with God and enjoy its results only if you do the hard work of getting along with each other, treating each other with dignity and honor.” James 3:18 (MSG)

Day Four

January 4, 2024

Dear God, I ask you to help me be fruitful. I know apart from you there is nothing, so I pray for a renewed commitment to making disciples. Please place others in my path today so I can begin discipling them. I want people to grow in their walks with Jesus, so use me Father in this way. Help me be patient and give me wisdom as I lead others to you. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.  “‘I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.’” - John 15:5

Day Five

January 5, 2024

Father, I come to You today asking that unity would sweep across our nation, across our city, and our churches. Your Word is clear on the selflessness it takes for unity to be developed and grow. I want to do my part and act in compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, and ultimately love. Give me eyes to see the everyday opportunities that are right in front of me to do so. Help me put into practice the commandment of loving my neighbor. Holy Spirit, make me aware and lead me in putting on love in every decision, response, conversation and every action.  As Your church, let us lead the way in unity. Use us to bring change in our families, communities, workplaces, and friendships. I am believing for You to move powerfully as we choose to represent You well in unity. In Jesus’ Name, Amen. “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” Colossians 3:12-14 (NIV)

Day Six

January 6, 2024

Take a few moments to write down all your anxious thoughts and tell God how you’re feeling. He knows your heart better than you! “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalm 139:23-24

Day Seven

January 7, 2024

Father, give us unity as we begin looking for the right church home. May our hearts be bound together by a common purpose and a shared love for Your house. We trust in Your abundant provision. We humbly ask for the resources needed to purchase a permanent home, knowing that all good gifts come from You. Grant our leaders and decision-makers wisdom as they make choices that will shape the future of our church. Let every decision Father, give us unity as we begin looking for the right church home. Week Two Fast: Unnecessary Spending

January 7, 2024

Fasting is a tool for each one of us to take time from something we value and turn our attention to God. Using our fast to focus on God is essential. Fasting is a great way to remove distractions and center our focus on what matters most. Day Eight

January 8, 2024

Lord, I know Your heart is for no one to be lost without You. Today I pray specifically for those in my life who need to come to know Jesus and ask that You would continue drawing them to You through Your kindness. Use me to be an extension of Your love in other's lives. I pray Your Holy Spirit would reveal to them their need for a leader and forgiver. I pray they would have a spiritual awakening and thirst for You and what only You can give them. Open their ears to hear Your voice. I am thankful You are a God of transformation and life change! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.  “For the son of man came to seek and save those who are lost.” Luke 19:10 (NLT)

Day Nine

January 9, 2024

God, many things on this earth will try to keep me from living the way You want me to live.  You sent Your son Jesus to die on the cross and rise from the dead, erasing sin for all mankind – and that includes mine! Because of the sacrifice of Jesus, I have a new life and a free life.  I pray You would give me strength to overcome temptation and sin. I am thankful nothing on this earth has more power than the name of Jesus. I have victory in my life because of the victory of Jesus on the cross. Help me desire you more than anything or anyone else. Thank you, God, for Your freedom. Bless those in recovery and help them walk in freedom. In Jesus’ Name, Amen. “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV)

Day Ten

January 10, 2024

Father, I lift up the next generation to you. Lord, may they desire to know your voice and understand your word. We pray for more kids servant leaders and youth workers. We know the harvest is plenty and the workers are few, so bring the right people to these ministries. Shift hearts so that there will be a desire to lead this next generation of believers. Father, I pray kids and youth would delight in you, walk in righteousness, and be full of integrity. In Jesus’ Name, Amen. How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Psalms 119:9-11 New International Version (NIV)

Day Eleven

January 11, 2024

Jesus, I ask You to restore my body to the way You created it to function. Take all illness and disease out of me and replace it with Your life and health. Restore every part of me so that I can again move with freedom and strength. I ask you to remove any unhealthy cells or infections from my body. I command all cancerous cells, known or unknown, to shrink and pass out of my body in the name of Jesus Christ. I ask You, Lord, to take away all pain.  Let me experience Your presence and bring me to a place of joy, intimacy, and health. Fill me with the light of Your presence and let me experience the power of your Holy Spirit. Lord bless all those in our church body who need a miracle and healing. In Jesus’ name, Amen. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By His wounds you have been healed. 1 Peter 2:24

Day Twelve

January 12, 2024

God, today I come before You on behalf of my pastors, leaders, bosses, and all those in a position of leadership. This time is beyond challenging, and Your Word promises if we need wisdom, we can simply ask, and You WILL give it to us! So today I call on You for wisdom and ask You to give it generously to every leader in my life. Give them what they need to navigate this season with grace, intention, God-inspired ideas, care, and concern for Your people. I believe even right now You will begin to bring answers and solutions for everything they are facing. Thank You for them and I pray you would encourage them with Your truth. May they be strengthened and know they are equipped for the task at hand. Nothing is too great for You! In Jesus’ Name, Amen. “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” James 1:5 (ESV)

Day Thirteen

January 13, 2024

Read Psalm 23. How can you apply this scripture to your life today? The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.     He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,     he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths     for his name’s sake. Even though I walk     through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil,     for you are with me; your rod and your staff,     they comfort me. You prepare a table before me     in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil;     my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me     all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord     forever.
