What is the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit?

In Mark 3:29 Jesus said, “...whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin." What is the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit? Is there really a sin that God will never forgive? Can a non-believer who commits this sin later repent and be forgiven? If the world will get worse in the end times, is there any hope for the gospel?

The Bible clearly teaches that as we draw closer to the return of Jesus Christ, the world will continue to get worse. So what hope do we have for the effectiveness of the gospel? If the gospel is going out, why won't the world be getting better? It is easy to become dejected, hopeless, and even scared when thinking about the end times. But the Bible tells us that we don't have to be, and gives us hope.
