Introduction

At the Movies is a long-standing tradition at New Hope. Each summer we take a deep dive into a handful of blockbuster movies to discover spiritual truths for our lives. As crowds finally return to the theaters, we’re seeing a lot of sequels to some of our old favorites. What is it about these original movies that has us longing for more of the story?

Raiders of the Lost Ark

Woody the Cowboy reigns as young Andy’s favorite toy until special birthday present arrives -- Buzz Lightyear. Buzz’s character, charm, and shiny new high-tech gadgets quickly win over the other toys in the room, as well as Andy’s heart. Buzz soon becomes Andy’s favorite while Woody fights jealousy and an urge for revenge. An unfortunate accident sets the two on a dangerous adventure where they must work together to survive. A friendship develops as they learn to help and trust each other. Our relationships and how we treat people are something God cares deeply about. This week, we’ll take a look at some characteristics of healthy and unhealthy friendships as described in the Bible, as we look at the relationship between Buzz and Woody from the movie Toy Story.
