1 Corinthians 9:25

For some of us, autumn means back-to-school, falling temperatures, and pumpkin spice lattes. Others rejoice in one main thing…FOOTBALL! Even if football isn’t your thing, there are aspects of it that illustrate important truths about living as faithful followers of Christ. God has a clear game plan for us to accomplish, with plays we need to run and a coach we need to follow. We all play an active role in our fitness, training, and fulfilling of our potential. Let’s start this fall with a solid Game Plan!

Focus and Listen

Every successful athlete knows the importance of conditioning and understanding the fundamentals of their sport. Not only do they help build endurance, but they lay a firm foundation of knowledge of the game. The same is true for us as followers of Christ. The stronger we grow in understanding God’s word and will, the better equipped we are to navigate our lives well.

Whether we realize it or not, we all use different strategies to manage our lives. We develop “playbooks” that guide our behavior, much like the game of football. When players make mistakes, they have a coach to guide them. We also have a coach, but He is so much more.

Hindsight can sometimes feel like our worst enemy because it’s quick to show us where we failed or could have done better. What if we flipped our perspective and used it as a tool to grow and change for the better? We can help each other do that by sharing our lives in community together.
