Mission Impossible: Fallout

Week 1 Message

August 18, 2019 • Rusty Coram

The Mission Impossible series has always pushed the limit on real life stunts. In the sixth film in the series, the real hero is the story it tells. It portrays a group of terrorists determined to take control, regardless of the loss of millions of lives. In his efforts to save the world, the only life the protagonist is willing to sacrifice is his own, and at any cost. This sounds very much like the Hero who came to save us all…Jesus.

Series Introduction

A trip to the movies can offer us many things – entertainment, time spent with friends and family, an escape from our daily lives by transporting us to a different time and place, and maybe an excuse to eat popcorn with extra butter. While those things may be true, there is much more. Movies are simply stories that offer us a chance to step into a different perspective, often freeing us from the constraints of our own thinking. Join us as we look for messages of faith in three lesser known, yet compelling movies from the last year.

This is the story of an African American teenage girl growing up in a black community while attending a predominantly white private school. Through her story, we have no choice but to face the difficult truths of some of the ugliest injustices in our country. But that is only part of the power of this film. The real beauty is in the awareness and discussion that comes as a result of this glimpse into a world many of us have never experienced.
