From the Ashes - Resurrection

The centerpiece of the Christian faith is the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The fact that Jesus rose from the dead gives hope to His followers that if death was defeated, then there is nothing that cannot be overcome. If we identify with Jesus in his death by dying to our old selves, then we too, like Jesus, will be reborn to new life.

From the Ashes - Sacrifice

The Hebrew people experienced the forgiveness of sins by the blood of and animal sacrifice. However, this forgiveness was temporary. The sacrifice of Jesus, to leave heaven and offer himself on the cross was an atoning sacrifice that covers us for all of eternity. It is through Christ’s death that we find eternal life.

To confess is to agree with God about all the areas of our lives. Confession is a process of recognition of sin, turning from that sin and experiencing the forgiveness of God. Having a regular practice of searching our lives and coming clean can cultivate a life full of grace and mercy.

In the busyness of life, we often neglect our connection to the source of life. Drawing near to God through contemplative prayer is the way in which we can draw near to God. This is an intentional practice that does not happen by accident.

Jesus demonstrated humility by coming to earth from heaven and washing the feet of the disciples. When we choose to exercise humility, we look more like Christ to the world around us.

Jesus experienced temptation of every kind and was able to overcome. His example offers us a way to withstand it as well. We are wise to follow Jesus’ lead and combat temptation with the truth of scripture.
