Week 7 - Devotional 2

Luke 5:27-32
Have you heard?
Luke 5:27 “After this, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name of Levi sitting at his tax booth. “Follow me,” Jesus said to him, and Levi got up, left everything and followed him.

I hope you’ve heard Jesus call your name. Jesus is constantly calling us into relationship with God, to come and follow him. Stop for a second and put yourself in Levi’s seat. Imagine Jesus walking up to you, saying your name, and asking you to come follow Him. I pray you can hear that call. Levi’s response is much like Simon’s mother-in-law in chapter 4 and the friends from Tuesday’s devotional. He throws a dinner party for Jesus and invites all of his friends so they can meet Jesus too. He is serving Jesus and pulling in all of his friends. Their perception of his willingness to leave his job and follow Jesus didn’t matter. Levi knew that life with Jesus would be better for him, and for all those he invited. Do we have faith that life with Jesus is better? Not simply death, heaven is the easy answer…it’s certainly better than Hell. Do we have faith that following Jesus in every aspect of life is better? Are we willing to leave everything behind (don’t run away from home, but is Jesus more important that your phone)? It’s not all discipline and rules, here we see Levi throwing a big joy filled party. Pray, talk to God about how to follow him. Ask about how you can serve, about how you can pull your friends in.
