Week 8 - Devotional 1

Luke 6:33-39
Luke 6:36 • “No one tears a piece out of a new garment to patch an old one.”
In our passage today you may struggle connect. Maybe, like me, you’ve never poured wine into wine skins or patched a garment. However, imagine being given a 1965 mustang (sweet right?). it may be old, but it’s a classic. Now imagine taking a 2021 mustang hood and sticking on the 1965. It’d look ridiculously out of place, nothing would match. It’d honestly be hard to get the new hood tao stay on the old car. Think about your life with Jesus. Do you take the parts you like and try to patch something together? I like this love your neighbor stuff, but the whole love your enemies thing is too hard. I’m game with peace from the Holy Spirit, but if someone slaps me forget turning the other cheek I’m hitting back. Sometimes our faith life can look like awful patchwork in the eyes of God. There is something to growing in our relationship, however sometimes we’re happy to not become new creations. Today take some time to chat with God about what is hard about following Him and what Biblical teachings are difficult for you to understand. Pray and ask God to give you a clean heart fully remade by the Holy Spirit.

Psalm 51:10 • Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
2 Corinthians 5:17 • therefore if anyone is in Christ, he or she is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
