The Doctrine of Humanity

The Doctrine of Humanity: Good news, bad news…the best news ever!

“Who am I?”, “What am I here for?”, and “What is the meaning of life?” Such fundamental questions are at the heart of our human experience. Even secular philosophies and worldly religions assert that we all must come to terms with such questions related to our existence. Therefore, establishing an accurate view of the origin, nature, and purpose of humanity is foundational in seeking God's answers to these existentially charged questions. After all, we know that humans were created by God in his image (Gen. 1:27), but what does that even mean?

In addition, God deemed humanity “very good” (Gen. 1:31) and yet the Apostle Paul later tells us that no one is without sin, no one seeks after God, and that there is no one who is good…no, not even one (Rom. 3:9-18). Something happened that changed the nature and trajectory of humanity. This event (aka, “the fall”) is when sin and death entered the world (Rom. 5:12), altering our physical, spiritual, psychological, and social realities.

Yet, even though human beings are living under this “death sentence” in Adam, God provides us with a solution that restores us to our fullest intended “humanness” through life in Christ Jesus (Rom. 5:17-19). Join us this Sunday as we unpack the who, what, where, when, and how on the doctrine of humanity.

Peace,
