The Way, The Truth, and The Life

October 10, 2021 • David Chadwick • John 14:1–14

This week we will be looking at John 14:1-14, some of Jesus's most significant teaching about the Father in heaven. Verse 6 is another "I Am" statement from Jesus, yet another claim to deity.

Jesus Prays for You

December 26, 2021 • John Kasay • John 17:20–26

Have you ever thought about God praying for us? He did. Jesus prayed for you and me in a lonely garden in Jerusalem 2000 years ago. Right before He went to the cross, His thoughts were on us – and He spoke with the Father about us. God speaking with God about you and me. You have to hear what He said.

Jesus Prays for His Followers

December 19, 2021 • David Chadwick • John 17:1–19

This Sunday, we look at John 17:1-19. It's the end of what is commonly called the Upper Room Discourse (John 14-16). In these verses, Jesus is praying. First, Jesus prays for Himself and His relationship with the Father (verses 1-6). Jesus prayed for only one thing: that His life would glorify His Father in heaven. Next, in verses 7-19, Jesus prays for His disciples. For the 11 who were with Him as He prayed this prayer. But, also, for you and me. And the amazing reality in Romans 8:34 is that He continues to pray this prayer for His followers today. While in heaven. Before the Father. How amazing! The reality of Jesus' life and purpose is found in the reality that the Father sent His Son, Jesus, into the world. (See John 17:18). It is a repeated theme throughout the gospel of John. And it's the reason for the season. It's why we celebrate Christmas. God became one of us. He moved into our neighborhood! God became a human! To live and die for us. To give us the gift of eternal life. Such amazing grace!

Pushing Through Pain to Joy

December 12, 2021 • David Chadwick • John 16:16–33

This Sunday, we will continue our journey through the gospel of John. Our verses will be John 16:16-33. The title of the message is "Pushing Through Pain to Joy." Have you ever had to push through a painful problem? Jesus said that His followers will have to. In fact, the example He gives in these verses is childbirth. The mom has to push through the pain. But joy immediately replaces the pain when the baby is placed on her chest. Such is the call to Jesus's followers. Personally, I couldn't help but think of Mary giving birth to Jesus. Pushing through the pain to hold in her arms the King of kings, Lord of lords and Prince of Peace. There is joy in our mourning. In John 16:33, Jesus tells us to “rejoice” in our tribulations. How are we able to rejoice? Because He has overcome the world! And since we are in Him, and He lives in us, we overcome the world and our problems with His presence. Power. Joy. Hope. Peace. And love.
