Move away from Temptation

We all face temptation of many kinds. For example, things Jesus doesn’t want us to do but also things He wants us TO DO! If the enemy can get us to a place of feeling “overconfident,” by getting us to think, “I’ll never do that,” we will be more susceptible to fall. Paul, the author in 1 Corinthians, gives us a way to overcome falling to temptation that may cause us to fall away.

One thing about false idols is that over time, they prove themself false. God does not want us to place anything in our lives before Him. Why? Because He loves us and knows what is best for us. Because of His great love for us, He has freed us from idolatry, therefore God is looking for people who will surrender their total heart to Him and obey.

Move with Determination

Nobody ever dreams of coming in second place. We dream of winning and becoming champions. Paul’s challenge to the Corinthian church remains relevant for us today. Success in our spiritual life, like success in all areas of life, requires training, dedication, and perseverance. Paul compares the strict training that athletes endure to the spiritual training that is necessary for us to become the spiritual champions God designed us to be. Using images like ‘running’ and ‘boxing’, Paul highlights the importance of being determined in the way we follow after Jesus.
