Shaken but Sure

Habakkuk 3:16-19

July 26, 2020 • Jesse Randolph

Even though it is hardly halfway over, the year 2020 has shown us many times over that we are living in uncertain times in an uncertain world. For those whose hope is rooted in something (or someone) other than Christ, they have found their sources of hope (whether it be health, financial security, the stability of a regular routine, societal and political peace) progressively crumbling all around them. This has bred feelings of worry, despair, anxiety, and fear on a scale we’ve never seen before--at least in recent generations.

Enter Habakkuk. An Old Testament prophet to the southern tribes of Judah, he knew something of the uncertainty and worry and fear that grips so many hearts today, since the world as he knew it was on the verge of collapse and destruction. Yet as we will see, Habakkuk ultimately came to see that no matter how unsure or unsettled his circumstances were, and no matter how bleak the future looked, the God he proclaimed was unchangeably good, just, and worthy of his praise!
