Please plan to bring your family and friends and join us for our special service of candle lighting and praise on Christmas Eve at 5:30 p.m.
The Candle Lighting Service Light is a Christian symbol so old that it has the sanction of Jesus Himself, who probably told His disciples not just once, but many times, “You are the light of the world.” As the lights in the Sanctuary are dimmed, let the darkness remind us that before the coming of Christ Jesus the world was engulfed in the darkness of sin. The Minister will light the Elders’ candles, which reminds us of Christ, the Light of the World.
The Elders will light the candles of the worshipers at the end of each pew, and they, in turn, will pass the light on from one to the other, reminding us that Jesus said, “You are the light of the world.” The Congregation will please remain seated during the candle lighting.
As the candles are being lit, the Congregation will sing “Silent Night.” When the candles are lit following the Litany of Candle Lighting, the Congregation will stand and sing “Joy to the World,” followed by the Benediction.
At the conclusion of the Benediction, as the Sanctuary lights are turned on, please extinguish all candles before turning and extending Christmas greetings to those who worship near you.
