Hosea 11:9 "http://...for I am God and not a man, the Holy One in your midst, and I will not come in wrath." Here is where the human intellect short circuits and faith takes the baton. Gods holiness is both a cause of dread in one sense and a cause of great comfort in another. There are only those two things that exist, the Creator and the creation; that which is God and that which is not God. THAT is the essence of the concept of holiness. God is separate from everything else. He is other-than. That is why its foolish to think that anyone can get close to God by moral and religious activity. Religion from a Latin word which means to re-link. There is no effort of man that can re-link him with God, because He is holy. BUT GOD can do for man what man cannot do. THAT IS THE GOSPEL. God who is separate from the created universe stepped into it stepped into this time/space world in human flesh to make the way for you and I to be reconciled re-linked. That way was by bearing our guilt and shame Himself on the Cross.

06/04/18 God Brings Charges

June 4, 2018 • Richard Cimino

As we pick up tonight in Hosea 4 we are going to see God calling out the nation bringing charges against His people. Were also going to see a lot of prophecy that is predictive in nature telling the nation the specific consequences of their continued idolatry. As we noted in the introduction and overview of the book there is a lot of predictive prophecy in it. People often make the mistake of trying to find America in prophecy. We need to remember that the Old Testament is about Israel not America. Having said that we are in the Bible in the sense that we can see the WAYS OF GOD in dealing with mankind and dealing with His people.

05/21/18 The Broken Heart of God Hosea

May 21, 2018 • Richard Cimino

Tonight were going to begin our study of the book of Hosea. And I feel so much like Im back at old times Monday night; because this morning I set out thinking we were going to cover Hosea chapter 1 all the way through chapter 3. And were going to cover Hosea 1, verse 1 through verse 2. So I thought it feels just like old times. But thats the beauty of Monday nights. We just kind of go as far as the LORD would have us to go. Hosea, the 28th book in the Canon of Scripture - it sits uniquely in the fourth and final section of the Old Testament Canon, the collection of the Old Testament Scriptures. And that last fourth and final section of the Old Testament is referred to as the Prophets. And if any of you were here during our Route 66 series that final major section of the Old Testament, it actually divides into subsets. And one of the subsets is called The Major Prophets. And the other is called The Minor Prophets. A lot of people neglect these last 12 books of the Old Testament simply because theyve been labelled as The Minor Prophets. And you might want to do just a little investigation this week. You might ask some of your friends that are Christians, how many of them have actually read through the 12 Minor Prophets? And then if they say, Oh yeah, I do that; I read through the Bible every year, then ask them, how many of you study each of the books of the Old Testament Minor Prophets? And they are probably the least frequented books in the whole Bible. So heres my desire, guys. Were going to see that Hosea, just like Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, Ezekiel, Hosea is the priceless and powerful inspired Word of God. Hosea contains the very words of God to man. And because of that every bit of this book of Hosea is worthy of our full attention, worthy of diligent and prayerful study. So would you please join me as we make this little journey through Hosea? Would you please join me in praying that as we study this Word that God would reveal Himself to us, that we would be receiving each week, week after week, we would be receiving the words of Hosea as the very words of God to us; and that we would see that the words that are recorded in this book, theyre worthy to be treasured in our hearts and applied to our lives.
