In Matthew chapter 3 we are shown the ministry of John the Baptist, Jesus' cousin and more importantly the prophesied forerunner to Jesus' own ministry. 'Listen! It’s the voice of someone shouting, “Clear the way through the wilderness for the Lord ! Make a straight highway through the wasteland for our God!' - Isaiah 40:3 John was called to prepare the way for Jesus, but what does that look like? First, GET RIGHT! Repent, turn from your old ways. Is God calling you to turn away from something as we begin 2019? Next, GET READY! Jesus could come back at any moment. Paul the Apostle tells the church in Thessalonica and us today: 'For you know quite well that the day of the Lord’s return will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night. When people are saying, “Everything is peaceful and secure,” then disaster will fall on them as suddenly as a pregnant woman’s labor pains begin. And there will be no escape.' - 1 Thessalonians 5:2-3 If you only had three days left to live, what would you do? Finally, GET REAL! We have all failed, but the Lord is not finished. We can begin to move forward and change our Lip Service to a Lifestyle. It is going to require CONSISTENCY so join a small group or find other believers that can help hold you ACCOUNTABLE.
