Monsters: Fighting Enemies of the Faith

This morning we will be finishing our series, "Monsters" where we are looking at 4 different sins that we have called monsters. These monsters are real and they are strong. The first three that we investigated could be place in a category we will call "sins of commission" things we do in disobedience to GOD. This morning we are going to flip that coin and investigate a different kind of sin altogether. To be honest with you, this monster can be a bit scarier than the other three.

We are in the midst of a series called "Monsters - Fighting the Enemies of Faith". For today, I would love to tell you that monsters simply do not exist. That there is nothing scary in the world and that those who think there is are probably just paranoid. But I would be lying. The Apostle Paul wrote in Ephesians 6 that we don't struggle against flesh and blood but against things in this world we cannot see. In short, monsters are real. So as the people of God, we should be specially trained to fight in order to stand our ground against the forces that actively seek to destroy us personally, destroy our marriages, destroy our families, destroy our church, and to destroy our society. Today we'll be dealing with a difficult branch of temptation. But because of Christ, there is much hope. The thing about being tempted as opposed to being tested is that God has promised a way of out temptation. He makes no such promise about tests. 1 Corinthians 10:12-13 says "I2 So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall! 13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it."

Monsters: Fighting Enemies of the Faith

As GOD'S Kingdom people we have some enemies. Sure, we have the enemies as Paul says that ... our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places." But even more subtle is something we bring in ourselves. And that something is a monster. We will just call it the monster of sin. This morning a new series that is right on the heels of the Kingdom series we just wrapped up. Sin, it is what separates us from GOD and each other. It hinders our witness and ruins our lives. This morning we will be looking at, if not the biggest monster, close to it. One man said that all sin, stems from this one. May we fight hard against all sin with the same power that raised JESUS from the dead.
