In the early years of Ern Baxter's faith and ministry, he noticed that a dichotomy had sprung up in the Body of Christ. One camp, known as Evangelical Christianity, was Word-centered but anti-Holy Spirit. The other, known as Pentecostalism, was so focused on the Holy Spirit that the neglected the Word. As Ern studied the matter, he wondered, "Why could I not be a man of both the Word and the Spirit" This became the focus of his life and ministry. We can have both the Word and the Spirit without compromising either one. The Word cannot be without the Spirit, and the Spirit without the Word can lead to error. In The King, the Kingdom, and the Holy Spirit, Ern Baxter calls us to keep both the Word and the Spirit in balance. He shows us how they were designed from all eternity, to complement what the Father was doing in the earth. We can have both the experience of the Holy Spirit and the stability of the Word - together.
