We Are in a War
July 31, 2022 • Lorenzo Elizondo • 1 Timothy 6:11–20
The Christian life is a war. There is no option, as believers we have been enlisted in a cosmic battle against an evil foe. In this passage, the apostle Paul encourages us to take hold of the life we have been given by God and stand our ground.
What About Slavery?
July 17, 2022 • Lorenzo Elizondo • 1 Timothy 6:1–2
In order to understand Paul’s instructions to slaves can be a difficult passage to read through without understanding its context and purpose. However, God’s Word has made the separation between indentured servanthood and kidnapping (Antebellum slavery) clear. Servanthood was a means of providing for the poor, and ensured the well-being of both parties involved. However, the stealing of people in to forced labor has always been prohibited (Exodus 21:16). With this framework in mind, Paul’s words become clear and point us to the gospel.
