Talking to Brick Walls

Servant of All - Messages from the Book of Mark

April 22, 2018 • Mike Donahue

Mark 6:34 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things.

Ezk 34:5 So they were scattered because there was no shepherd, and when they were scattered they became food for all the wild animals.

Seven ways to give your child the privilege of process

1. Don’t down play or judge that social government that they spend more time in than they spend with you. Seek to understand it. Ask questions. Listen for hints.

2. Sudden erratic or bad behavior can be a sign that there is a problem that they need help with. Don’t just go into disciplinary mode. Use it a coachable moment.

3. Don’t let failure be fatal. Give them the privilege of process. You have a front row seat to their lives.

4. Parenting out of fear will shut down communication. If you are truly giving your child the privilege of process, it is a guarantee that you will hear something that will frighten you but that is exactly where you want to go.

5. Help them manage social problems. Don’t just take over. They already feel out of control. You taking over can make it worse. Give them some power.

6. Listen! Listen! Listen! Listen! Listen! Listen! Listen! Listen! Listen! Listen! Listen!

7. Communicate often that you love them no matter what. Especially when they mess up.
