Text Mark 6:45-52 45“Immediately he made his disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd. 46 And after he had taken leave of them, he went up on the mountain to pray. 47 And when evening came, the boat was out on the sea, and he was alone on the land. 48 And he saw that they were making headway painfully, for the wind was against them. And about the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. He meant to pass by them, 49 but when they saw him walking on the sea they thought it was a ghost, and cried out, 50 for they all saw him and were terrified. But immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.” 51 And he got into the boat with them, and the wind ceased. And they were utterly astounded, 52 for they did not understand about the loaves, but their hearts were hardened.” #1 Obedience is required as a follower of Christ! Obedience: “dutiful or submissive compliance to the commands of one in authority.” “Dutiful” Our obligation to obey God... just as Jesus fulfilled His duty to the Father by dying on the cross for our sin. “Submissive” Yield our wills to God’s. “Commands” God has clearly delineated His instructions. “One in authority” God Himself... whose authority is total and unequivocal. For the Christian... Obedience means complying with everything God has commanded... #2 Obedience to Christ does not guarantee smooth sailing! #3 Life is FULL of unexpected storms! #4 When life's storms breakout... Jesus will come to us. When life's storms breakout... These experience can bring Jesus closer to us. #5 When life’s storms breakout... Remember... God is in control! He is wanting you to... • SEE His authority • FEEL His presence • HEAR His voice • TASTE His goodness • And have peace by the power of His TOUCH!

Doing Life Together

September 15, 2019 • Lead Pastor Tim Moen

One of the greatest awarenesses in life... Is when we recognize that we do not need to journey this life alone. It was God’s intent from the very beginning that we do Life Together! Genesis 1:26-27 26 “Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” Ecclesiastes 4:12 “And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” Doing Life Together Mark 1:16-20 16 “Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. 17 And Jesus said to them, ‘Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.’ 18 And immediately they left their nets and followed him. 19 And going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending the nets. 20 And immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants and followed him.” Acts 2:41-47 41 “So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls. 42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.” The early church... • They shared everything in common... • They spent time together eating • They hung out in each other's homes • They ate together • They prayed together • They studied Scripture together • They gave generously to each other • They served each other Their number one priority in the early church was RELATIONSHIP! • Relationship with God • Relationship with each other Matthew 22:36-40 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” In this snapshot, the early church was free of conflict. • They did not care about titles. • They did not care about possessions. • They did not try and “lord it over” each other. The early church instead... • Loved • Shared • Gave • Served • Helped There are four key Devotion’s found in Acts 2:42... The early church devoted themselves to being... • Grounded in Scripture • Grounded in Caring Relationships • Grounded in the Breaking of Bread • Grounded in Prayer The early church got along pretty well! Acts 2:41... We learn that 3000 people joined the church in one day! Acts 2:47 adds that people were being saved by the Lord and added to their number daily. What made the early church so attractive? They shared Life Together! • A New Life with God • A New Life with Each Other References: Rom. 12:10 Rom. 12:16 Rom. 15:14 Rom. 16:16 1 Cor. 11:33 1 Cor. 12:25 Gal. 5:13 Gal. 6:2 1 Thess. 5:11 1 Thess. 5:11 1 Thess. 5:13 1 Thess. 5:15 Eph. 4:2 Eph. 4:32 Eph. 5:21 Col. 3:13 James 5:16 James 5:16 1 Pet. 1:22 1 Pet. 4:9 1 Pet. 5:5 THREE KEY things we must do... to experience community in Christ in our Life Together. #1 The first fruit of commitment is time... Those who love one another spend time with each other. Time will either BIND US or it will DIVIDE US! #2 Share space... This may or may not mean living with one another under the same roof... But it will mean finding practical ways of becoming closer with each other. #3 Being generous with what we have. • Sharing a meal • Giving away clothes • Letting people stay in your home • Loaning our your car • Giving away your car • Giving money Three POWERFUL words sum up the early church: • Unified ... The believers were unified • Magnified ... Christ was magnified • Multiplied... The church was multiplied

Prayer Makes All Things Possible

Servant of All Message Series • September 8, 2019 • Lead Pastor Tim Moen

Text: Mark 9:14-29 23b “All things are possible for one who believes.” Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Question: What is FAITH? Answer: Faith simply means believing that something is true, and then committing our lives to it. In the Bible, “faith” means believing in God, and in what Christ has done for us to make our salvation possible–and then committing ourselves to Him. FAITH is a choice! Acts 16:31 “And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” I choose to believe in Jesus Christ... that He died for my sins... that by believing in Him... my sins will be forgiven. I NEED faith to become a Christian. Ephesians 2:8-9 8 “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” FAITH is taking action upon things.... Things... • That are not seen • That are not tangible • That are not visibly there 2 Corinthians 5:7 “We walk by faith, not by sight.” Hebrews 11:1 "Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” • We trust in a God .... But we cannot see Him • We trust in a Christ ... But we cannot see Him • We trust in an Holy Spirit ... But that we cannot see Him • We embrace a death and resurrection... That we have not seen • We believe in a justification ... That we haven not seen • We believe in a heaven ... That we have not seen Prayer Makes All Things Possible 1 Peter 1:8-9 8 “Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, 9 obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.” We are not talking of a blind faith... It is faith based on evidence! For us today... That evidence IS God’s Word... God’s Word anchors our FAITH! Romans 10:17 “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” Prayer Makes All Things Possible Mark 9:14-29 14 “And when they came to the disciples, they saw a great crowd around them, and scribes arguing with them. 15 And immediately all the crowd, when they saw him, were greatly amazed and ran up to him and greeted him. 16 And he asked them, “What are you arguing about with them?” 17 And someone from the crowd answered him, “Teacher, I brought my son to you, for he has a spirit that makes him mute. 18 And whenever it seizes him, it throws him down, and he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid. So I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they were not able.” 19 And he answered them, “O faithless generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him to me.” 20 And they brought the boy to him. And when the spirit saw him, immediately it convulsed the boy, and he fell on the ground and rolled about, foaming at the mouth. 21 And Jesus asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood. 22 And it has often cast him into fire and into water, to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” 23 And Jesus said to him, “‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.” 24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!” 25 And when Jesus saw that a crowd came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “You mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.” 26 And after crying out and convulsing him terribly, it came out, and the boy was like a corpse, so that most of them said, “He is dead.” 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose. 28 And when he had entered the house, his disciples asked him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?” 29 And he said to them, “This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer.” In Mark 6:7-13... Jesus gave authority to the disciples to cast out demons. They had done it before... It wasn’t anything new to them.. But this time was different. Jesus... Is teaching them a lesson.... A lesson about their great faith... in themselves. He was teaching them... How powerless they really are. Mark 9:28-29 And when he had entered the house, his disciples asked him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?” 29 And he said to them, “This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer.” Two Quick points today... Jesus’ answer... reveals to them how much faith they had in themselves... how self-reliant they were. Matthew 17:20...”He said to them, ‘Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.’” Phlippians 3:3 “For we are the circumcision, who worship by the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put NO confidence in the flesh.” Romans 10:17 “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” Mark 9:29 “This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer.”
