The perfect gift. The perfect decoration. The perfect ugly sweater. The Christmas season can quickly become eclipsed by the many expectations we pack into it. From the perfect Christmas dinner, to making everyone happy, Christmas can become loaded with stress and even debt. How do we take a deep breath, center ourselves, and rescue Christmas from it all? It’s hard to say no to ourselves when we want things a certain way – including Christmas. Is it possible, can we can have our own agenda at Christmas? If so, what could be the consequence? We’ll examine Matthew chapter 2 and the tail of a tragically self-centered king. It will leave us asking, “What do I really want for Christmas?”

All I Want for Christmas: Home for the Holidays

While the holidays are cause for great joy, they can be a source of great stress, sometimes because of family. Relationships can be tricky things to navigate, and then you add in Christmas and New Years and it can be a down right riddle. Expectations abound and everyone wants something to be a certain way. The pull is to please everyone, which is impossible. “What do I really want for Christmas?” Gather in with us as we look at how one man navigated the expectations of family and culture and in doing so, changed the world (Matthew 1).

All I Want for Christmas: Comfort and Joy

In a culture with comfort so readily available why is there so little joy? We are quick to think that we know what we want, and often believe that by filling our lives with things and distractions we will find joy. What happens when comfort chokes out joy and leaves one feeling empty? Join as we ask the question, “What do I really want for Christmas?” We will explore the condition of people waiting in darkness and groping around trying to fine meaning (Isaiah 9).
