We Need Each Other

The Community We Need

September 12, 2021 • Vince DiPaola

America was founded on the concept of individuality and in so many ways that is a good thing. Individualism helps us realize our unique personal desires, freedoms, preferences, and dreams which allow us to be all that we can be. But could it be that we are so individualistic that we have forgotten how much we need each other and how being in community with others builds our lives? In the early church, followers of Jesus Christ hung tight, grew together, supported each other, and encouraged each other because it was a matter of survival in light of the adversity they faced. Today, we need each other as much as the early church did back then, and in this series (based on Acts 2:42-47) we will share how we all need community with others, care flowing to and from others, and life-change through Bible study that can comes when we meet together. We’ll also kick off small groups and help everyone at Lakeshore find one that helps meet their needs for community, care and changed lives.

The Care We Need

We all need care from others and we all need to care for others. Sometimes we are the ones who are hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. Sometimes we are the ones to gently restore those who have been hardened. Sometimes we express care by helping others with their burdens. Sometimes they are the ones helping us with our burdens. Whatever life brings us, we are called by God to live life by receiving and giving care to each other. This week we will talk about our God-given responsibilities to care for each other and how we have an opportunity for everyone to experience care at Lakeshore.

The Changed Lives We Need

On Sunday, I will wrap up our series “We Need Each Other” by looking at “The Changed Lives We Need”. In Acts 2:42-47, our foundational verse for this series, we see that not only did the early church Christians experience “community” and “care”, they experienced “changed-lives” through Bible study. I’ll explain where and how this third “C” occurs in the church and how it can help you change what needs changing in your life. We’ll also talk about how plugging into a small group this Fall as they begin can help you grow and experience life change.
