Don’t Just Stand There!

January 7, 2024 • Pastor Christian Newsome • Acts 1:1–11

This week in our new series, Pastor Christian encourages the congregation to embark on a verse-by-verse study of the Book of Acts over the next two years. He urges everyone to reflect on their spiritual stories as books of actions that demonstrate their faith in Jesus. The Book of Acts provides historical context for the early Christian church and focuses on the actions of Christians and the transformative power of the Holy Spirit. Pastor Christian discusses the importance of spreading the message of repentance and forgiveness in Jesus' name and emphasizes that the promised power from on high was for a spiritual Kingdom that lives in believers before it takes over around them. He encourages intentional efforts to remain filled with the Holy Spirit.

The Oregon Trail

February 11, 2024 • Pastor Christian Newsome • Acts 2:42–47

Pastor Christian explores the connection between the early Christian community and the modern-day church, drawing parallels from the book of Acts. He emphasizes the importance of vertical and horizontal connections, both between individuals and God and within the community. He encourages churches to reflect on the ancient, kingdom way of living, with a focus on prayer, devotion to the apostles' teachings, and living for one another. Pastor Christian also emphasizes the role of the church in supporting individuals and preventing loneliness through spiritual community. He encourages listeners to adopt practices such as daily Scripture reading and regular prayer to align more closely with the ancient way. He also encourages believers to defend God's mission and help others see its benefits.

Simon Peter: Take 2

January 28, 2024 • Pastor Christian Newsome • Acts 2:12–28

Pastor Christian continues the Consecrated series, week four by reminding the audience of the mission, dedicating themselves to Jesus' mission. The word "consecrate" has dual meanings - declaring something sacred and dedicating oneself to a divine purpose. The Bible study, based on Acts chapter 2, focuses on the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples and Peter's defense of their actions to the crowd. Peter draws parallels between the locust plague in Joel's time and the broken world, emphasizing personal repentance and God's role in restoration. Pastor Christian encourages viewers to look for the salvation offered by Jesus, regardless of their past or current circumstances.
