Travels with Jesus

Good Friday — The Last Few Steps

March 30, 2018

Friday, March 30 at 5 pm and 7 pm

Spiritual A.D.D.

March 4, 2018 • Jason Denison

Message Summary: Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem, knowing He would die there. He had conversations with three men as they considered following Him. Jesus laid out what that would mean for each one of them; dying to security and comfort, detaching from religious and cultural expectations and releasing attachments to family. We can learn what it means to follow Jesus as we stay tuned and respond to His inciting voice. Field Notes Series: Whatever terms we use — Christ follower, Christian, Disciple, Believer — authentic relationship and apprenticeship to Jesus is not a check box or merely a set of beliefs. It’s not a religion we belong to. It’s not a stationary thing — it’s a journey, a movement and it is disorienting at times. In fact, as you read the story of Jesus in the book of Luke, the longest section —the part that gets us to Good Friday and Easter — is called “the Travel Narrative.” It reads like a travelogue of sorts. Luke 9:51 says, “As the days approached…He set His face to go to Jerusalem.” On the way to the most defining event in history — Jesus explains, teaches and course corrects what life with Him is all about. How to (Not) Miss Out on the Kingdom of God

March 11, 2018 • Ed Noble

Message Summary: On our travel journey there are some facts that kind of hit you in the face. Jesus wants us to feel the force of these. The chief among them is: clearly it’s possible to miss out. It’s up to us if we miss out or not. The synagogue official in this Luke passage is a clear example of this. Ed suggests three ways to keep us from missing out: watch your religion, understand the heart of covenant and keep the person of Jesus as the point and the message. Coming Back to the Start

March 18, 2018 • Ed Noble

Message Summary: Often on our journey with Jesus, we find we need to adjust our course and move toward Him with Him. We will be distracted by gifts and need to return to the healer who is the only one who can truly satisfy. We go back when we realize God gives us stuff so He can give us Himself and when we understand and pray, “God, be my all encompassing one thing.” Field Notes Series: Whatever terms we use — Christ follower, Christian, Disciple, Believer — authentic relationship and apprenticeship to Jesus is not a check box or merely a set of beliefs. Palm Sunday — The Unexpected Entry

March 25, 2018 • John Sorrell

Message Summary: Jesus gave notice to the Sadducees and Pharisees that they kingdom of God they were waiting for had already arrived. But somehow they missed it. In spite of all the commotion that surrounds Jesus as He enters Jerusalem, He stays present to what’s happening in God’s kingdom. He invites us to open our eyes to His kingdom and refuse to let past wounds or future worry get in the way of being present. We have the opportunity this week to take notice of the kingdom of God in the midst of us.
