Zeal for His House

1. This might sound like an overly-broad question, but how does the scene from Jesus's life in John 2:13-25 challenge you? What is most striking to you and what do you believe God has for you to understand from this passage? 2. Read Luke 11:1-13. What does prayer look like to Jesus? What is one way in which your prayers might better reflect what Jesus taught? 3. When Jesus disrupted the activities in the temple, he made a contrast between God's house being a "place of trade" vs. a place of prayer. If Jesus was to come into our worship environment or church gatherings, would he see anything that distracts us from worship? What in your own life has the potential to distract you from undivided worship? 4. The disciples said of Jesus that the zeal for [his father's] house would consume him (Psalm 69:9). What does zeal look like? In what ways have you seen zeal exhibited in the lives of individuals or in the life of the church? 5. Consider all the previous questions. What is God teaching you about himself and about yourself? What is one that you can do this week to put action to this new understanding?
