The subject of idolatry is one of the most prominent throughout the biblical storyline. While the idea today may evoke images of people bowing down to totem polls, the reality is that idolatry is first and foremost a matter of the heart. Anything we supremely love, trust, and obey is a functional idol. This teaching will explain what idolatry really is and how to identify idols of the heart.

A biblical understanding of idolatry provides great explanatory power personally - your wildest emotions, besetting sins, greatest fears, deepest longings, psychological struggles, weaknesses, interpersonal difficulties, family dysfunction, identity and self-understanding. Additionally, idolatry has layers, meaning that only by understanding our deep or source idols, can we really understand what drives us to do what we do. This teaching will diagnose the deep idols of power, comfort, control, and approval and show the way they shape our lives.
