Worship Matters

Understanding Worship

June 25, 2023 • Stephen Putbrese • 1 Chronicles 16

What is worship? Put simply, it is ascribing high value or worth to something. In that sense, we all place value and trust in something, but can that something bless us back? The act of worship is more than mere singing - in doing so, we are shaped and formed. Only when we worship that which is truly highest are we able to see the world rightly. In this text, we see how worshipping the living God brings strength and stability into our lives.

The Power of Worship

July 2, 2023 • Stephen Putbrese • 2 Chronicles 5:11–14, 2 Chronicles 7:1–3

How does worship shape a person? What does it mean to say "God showed up" in worship? These questions are related and can be explained by the glory of God. Glory is a word that means weight in Hebrew. While the idea of glory is somewhat uncommon to us, the idea of awe isn't. Research surrounding awe has discovered that when we encounter something awe-inducing, we change. In this text, we see what it means to have an encounter with the living God in worship and how that transforms us.

Worship Warfare

July 9, 2023 • Stephen Putbrese • 2 Chronicles 20:12–23

Worship is more than singing. In giving ourselves to God, he responds by giving himself to us and by fighting for us. In this text, we see how to worship when faced with impossible situations and challenges. Worship is not passive resignation, but active fighting. This teaching will explore how to process a crisis, the key to spiritual strength, and the nature of worship warfare.
