3 John

Walking In Truth

December 31, 2023 • Mitch Jordan • 3 John 1–8

What is love? What is truth? Are the two independent or do they depend upon one another? In the short epistle known as 3 John, the Apostle John writes a personal letter to his friend Gaius, whom he says he "loves in truth." Although we often pin love and truth against each other, 3 John will show how they are actually mutually dependent. In this teaching, we will see why the truth matters, how it feeds love, and what it means to walk in it.

Walking In Love

Truth and Love mutually support and reinforce one another. Without truth, love is mere feeling and sentimentality; without love, truth can be cold and crushing. In the gospel of Jesus, we find truth and love perfectly held together and expressed. This teaching will focus on the dimension of love. Love is the naturally fruit of the truth that is in Jesus and is expressed through further support of gospel ministry. As the truth is embraced, the church is continually built up in love (Ephesians 4:15-16).
