GOD IS THE SOURCE OF YOUR WEALTH

Day 270

September 27, 2024 • 1 Timothy 6:17–18

1 Timothy 6:17-18

Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;

Beware anyone who says that God promises a financial fortune to his followers. First, the Scriptures don’t say that. Second, the experiences of millions of faithful believers through the ages don’t back up such an extravagant claim.

What the Bible does assert is that God owns everything (see Psalm 24:1) and sometimes gives his people great material wealth (see Deuteronomy 8:10-18).

For reasons known only to God, those of us in the West have been especially blessed at this time in history. Compared to our brothers and sisters in many other parts of the world, we are rich.

How can we respond? With humility. God is the one who gives us the ability to earn and acquire money and possessions (see Deuteronomy 8:18). With grateful hearts we can enjoy his lavish provision and use those resources to bless others in need.

GOD’S PROMISE TO ME

• Your money will not last forever.

• I give you all you need for your enjoyment.

• I bless you so you can bless others.

MY PRAYER TO GOD:

O God, thank you for your material provision. Keep me from being greedy or selfish. Help me find a God-honoring balance in my stewardship of the resources that you have put in my care. Show me practical and creative ways to use my money to do good. Amen.
