In Habakkuk 3:17-19, a wave of realization rushes over Habakkuk as he comes to terms with the fact that destruction and discipline will come upon his people, and that his hopes and dreams will not be seen in his lifetime. Yet, Habakkuk turns to God as the source of his joy, strength, and hope. Precious and timeless truths are found in this passage for anyone who experiences the fragility and disappointment of life.
Fervent Prayer
May 21, 2023 • Pastor Mark Johnson • Habakkuk 3:1–16
Habakkuk had wrestled with God about Judah’s sin and then about the wickedness of the nation of Babylon that God would bring to judge them. Then, God showed him that “the righteous shall live by his faith” (2:4) and promised that “the earth will be full of the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea” (2:12). True faith expresses itself in praying. In Habakkuk 3, the prophet, Like Elijah before him, modeled for us the fervent praying of faith…
The Earth will be Filled with the Glory of God
May 7, 2023 • Pastor Phillip Macdonald • Habakkuk 2:12–20
As the kingdom of Judah sinks deeper into sin and closer to exile, God reveals to Habakkuk that He will use Babylon as an instrument of judgement against Judah. However, God will also be faithful to judge Babylon for their wickedness. From Habakkuk 2:6-20, God pronounces 5 “woes” against the nation of Babylon. These
“woes” serve as warnings to us who find ourselves in the same patterns of sin as the evil empire of Babylon. Within these warnings of judgement, God reveals that while every empire and idol will fall, He will fill the earth with His glory and be worshiped in His holy temple.
Wrath

The prophet Habakkuk STRUGGLED with the wickedness around him and then, with God’s answer that God would bring a more wicked nation to judge his country. Habakkuk and all godly people in this wicked world need to know that “the Judge of all the earth will do right” (Gen. 18:25, Romans 1:18).
The Good Fight

Today is part 2 in our study of “HABAKKUK: THE STRUGGLE.” He was burdened about the sin that was going on all around him and cried out, “Lord, I’m confused.” God’s answer that He would send the Babylonians to judge Judah left him feeling, “Lord, I’m more confused.” God’s response called him and calls us to the great solution, to “fight the good fight of FAITH” (1 Tim. 6:12).
Lord, I'm Confused!

Welcome to “HABAKKUK: THE STRUGGLE.” In 1:1, we meet the man and his message. Little known about this prophet; but he is best known by his message—a weighty “burden.” He is burdened about what is all around him. We don’t face these same circumstances; but we face the same dilemmas in this evil world! With Habakkuk, we ask, “what are the godly to do?”
