We live in a noisy world! Jesus had a rhythm of being in crowded places but also retreated from the masses to be on his own -see Luke 5:16- The practice of silence and solitude (although not technically spiritual disciplines) refresh us and give us an opportunity to focus on the only voice that matters, God's. But fasting places us in a position to receive God’s grace and allows us to go deeper.
