Choosing New

January 5, 2020 • Chris High

As we welcome the new year with new possibilities, we can either embrace the new or we can stay in the old. And as God steps into our Lives, he says I want to bring you something new.  DISCUSSION QUESTIONS Are you the type of person who holds onto everything (hoarder) or are you quick to toss out (put off) the old and embrace the new? When was a time in your life where you have given up on the idea of "new" and accepted the old? In what ways have you tried to make "new" instead of going to God? Pastor Chris asked us to reflect on one area where you are living in the old? Would you be willing to share with us what you wrote down? Where are you seeing this in your life? How is holding on this effecting you? What would the "new" look like? How might we support you?

So many of us talk about living in the new, but find ourselves from time to time still operating in the old. Listen as Pastor Anthony reminds of the importance of having people in our lives that will hold us accountable so that we can begin to experience the fullness that God intended for us. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS Who is a consistent encouragement in your life? Who is someone you could be an encouragement to? Where have you experienced success in community? What about the community helped make it successful? Where in scripture do we see people having success through community?  Who are people in scripture that could have avoided failure had they not tried to do it on their own? What holds us back from sharing our struggle with the old? Why are we so tempted to purse the new on our own? How can this community support you in your steps to pursuing the new?

Practice

January 26, 2020 • Chris High

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS Who is someone you admire? What's one skill or activity that you struggled with at first but eventually got better at with practice? How long did it take you to get comfortable with that skill or activity? 1 Timothy 4:8 says "Physical Training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and the life to come." Have you found this to be true? What did "training for godliness" look like for you? One of the key points in Sunday's message was to stop focusing on eliminating someone but focus on becoming someone, how would that shift in thinking change how you approach this idea of "new"? How can you "practice" putting on the new? What is the controlled environment where you will be able to put in the practice? How do you envision this? How will you measure or track your progress?

Discussion Questions Share with us a time it took a team in your life to experience a win. Were you the one being aided or did you aid someone else? Where else in Scripture do you see God only doing something once? Whose arms are you holding up? Who in your life have you allowed to hold up yours? How might we as a group take steps to become a better team for each other?
