Revival
July 7, 2024 • Jason Sharpe • Matthew 23:27, Ephesians 2:2–4, Matthew 16:24, Psalm 63:1–3
In Matthew 23:27, Jesus addresses the scribes and Pharisees, calling them hypocrites for their outward appearance of righteousness while being inwardly full of corruption. Pastor Jason speaks to the need for true revival, targeting three types of people who need a spiritual awakening:
Those Who Are Dead in Sin: Ephesians 2:1-5 highlights the state of being spiritually dead due to trespasses and sins, but also the transformative power of God's grace that makes us alive in Christ. Revival begins with recognizing our need for salvation and embracing God's mercy.
Those Who Are Defiled by Compromise: Matthew 16:24 calls for self-denial and taking up the cross to follow Jesus. Revival requires a rejection of worldly compromises and a wholehearted commitment to Christ's path.
Those Who Have a Dried-Out Passion: Psalm 63:1-3 expresses a deep longing for God in a dry and weary land. Revival involves rekindling our passion for God, seeking Him earnestly, and finding satisfaction in His steadfast love.
Revival is about moving from a state of spiritual death, compromise, and dryness to one of life, purity, and fervent passion for God. Through self-examination, repentance, and renewed commitment, we can experience the power and glory of God in our lives, leading to true and lasting transformation.
