When Moses met with God on Mount Sinai, God instructed him on how the Tabernacle was to be built. Within those instructions God told Moses to build an altar upon which the people would make sacrifices. The purpose of the altar was to hold up the sacrifice type that would find its fulfillment in Jesus.
