Seven Pillars of Wisdom

Wisdom From Proverbs

Relationships

October 22, 2019 • Tanya Goffin

We need to know who we are in Christ (no room for self-hate or condemnation) and then apply the moral excellence of God in our relationships with each other. We need to know that our deepest soul needs (totally loved and valued) will find perfect fulfilment in Christ and not other people. Who or what are we really trusting in?

Self-Control

October 15, 2019 • Jim Johnston

Self Control is the only pillar of wisdom in the series that is also a Fruit of the Holy Spirit. In a world that is often obsessed with self, the control of ourselves under pressure is something that is becoming scarcer. As believers how do we contend with a world that is increasingly reactional to emotions and feelings? How do we contend with our old nature when we begin to see red in a challenging circumstance? Self control is a defining characteristic of Christ and as a follower we should aim to emulate Him.

Money

October 1, 2019 • Nipun Ekanayake

Money is not the most important thing in life, but it affects everything that is important. The Bible has a lot to say about money and about 1 in every 6 verses in the New Testament talks about money. When the Bible does that it means we need to pay attention to it. Throughout the Bible we read about the inference of money and how it affects relationships, communication and life outcomes.

Priorities

October 8, 2019

Whether you are a new believer, or a mature Christian having served the Lord for years, we all are subject to stumble in life with "misaligned priorities." Our priorities are the areas of our lives that are meaningful and important to us. They're usually activities, practices, or relationships that we want to put genuine effort and time into.

Diligence

September 24, 2019 • Lee Venning

Some people seem to have a natural ability to succeed; others seem to fail in most of what they do. The difference is diligence. Diligence, or steady perseverance in one’s effort, results in careful, energetic, and persistent work. Diligent people get the job done. They don’t quit until they have given it their all. The Bible uses the word diligence in several ways, and it is always in a positive sense.

Family Life

September 17, 2019 • Paul Goffin

God’s view of the family is of one man and one woman, producing children. One man and one woman “until death us do part”. This is not a popular concept these days but this is God’s purpose and intention is for marriage. Proverbs deals a lot with the relationship of the wife with her husband, but these principles apply just as much to a husband with his wife.

Wisdom Itself - Introduction to Proverbs

September 10, 2019 • Ian Mann

Solomon’s great wisdom helped him to become rich and powerful but could not keep him from turning away from God. Only when wisdom as a skill is subordinated to obedience to God is true wisdom displayed. Wrongly used, proverbs may justify a crass, materialistic lifestyle. Rightly used, Proverbs will provide practical advice for godly living. In this series we will look at godly wisdom applied to different aspects and areas of life.
