The book of Ruth describes the grace of God. Despite the sin and apostasy of the people of Israel during the times of the Judges, God is fulfilling His promises in regard to the coming Messiah. Whereas the book illustrates the theological concept of redemption beautifully, its primary purpose appears to have been to reveal how God often providentially works behind the scenes to bring His will to pass. This chapter is about Boaz. After Ruth took the initiative in ch.2 and Naomi took the initiative in ch.3, Boaz takes the initiative in this chapter. He starts acting to finally be able to take Ruth to his wife.
