Eyes & Ears

Matt 13:13 Therefore I speak to them in parables; because while seeing they do not see, and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. 15 for the heart of this people has become dull, with their ears they scarcely hear, and they have closed their eyes, otherwise they would see with their eyes, hear with their ears, and understand with their heart and return, and I would heal them.’ HEARING IS NOT BASED ON INTELLIGENCE. ONE OF THE QUICKEST WAYS TO HEAR GOD’S VOICE IS BEST ACHIEVED BY WORSHIP. Ps 95:6 Come, let us worship and bow down, Let us kneel before the LORD our Maker. 7 For He is our God, And we are the people of His pasture and the sheep of His hand. Today, if you would hear His voice, 8 Do not harden your hearts, YOU CAN’T MAKE GOD SPEAK TO YOU BUT YOU CAN MAKE YOURSELF AVAILABLE. EXAMPLES OF MEN OF GOD WHO HEARD HIS VOICE... MOSES – SOLITUDE – NOTICE, THERE WAS A PLACE WHERE GOD SPOKE TO MOSES. ELIJAH – Persistent in prayer – 1 Kings 19:11 So He said, “Go forth and stand on the mountain before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD was passing by! And a great and strong wind was rending the mountains and breaking in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a sound of a gentle blowing. KJV “a still small voice.” MSG “a gentle and quiet whisper.” STRENGHT AND NEW DIRECTION COME FROM HEARING HIS VOICE. JEREMIAH – Location, location, location Jer 18:1 The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD saying, 2 “Arise and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will announce My words to you.” THERE ARE TIMES YOU HAVE TO BE IN THE RIGHT PLACE TO HEAR HIM SAMUEL – Trained in the temple/a mouthpiece for God 1 Samuel 3:1 Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the LORD before Eli. And word from the LORD was rare in those days, visions were infrequent. 3 Samuel was lying down in the temple of the LORD where the ark of God was, 4 that the LORD called Samuel; and he said, “Here I am.” 5 Then he ran to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he said, “I did not call, lie down again.” So he went and lay down. 6 The LORD called yet again, “Samuel!” So Samuel arose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he answered, “I did not call, my son, lie down again.” 7 Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, nor had the word of the LORD yet been revealed to him. KNOWING THE LORD IS IN CONNECTION WITH HIS VOICE. 8 So the LORD called Samuel again for the third time. And he arose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” Then Eli discerned that the LORD was calling the boy. 9 And Eli said to Samuel, “Go lie down, and it shall be if He calls you, that you shall say, ‘Speak, LORD, for Your servant is listening.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place. 10 Then the LORD came and stood and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel said, “Speak, for Your servant is listening.” PEOPLE WHO KNOW GOD HEAR HIS WORD/VOICE. HOW TO CONFIRM / KNOW IT’S GOD SPEAKING TO YOU 1) ALWAYS ASK, DOES IT LINE UP WITH THE SCRIPTURES? (TRUTH) THE HOLY SPIRIT IS THE AUTHOR OF ALL SCRIPTURE. 2 Tim 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. TO WALK IN THE SCRIPTURE IS TO WALK IN THE LIGHT (Ps 119:105) 2) GOD’S VOICE WILL ALWAYS PRODUCE PEACE. Col 3:15 Let the peace of Christ RULE in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be THANKFUL. 16 Let the WORD of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with THANKFULNESS in your hearts to God. WE HAVE AN INWARD UMPIRE. 3) THROUGH OUR FELLOW BELIEVERS Acts 13:1 Now there were at Antioch, in the church that was there, prophets and teachers: Barnabas, and Simeon who was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. 2 While they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” 3 Then, when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them away. PAUL MENTIONS IN SEVERAL LETTERS THAT HIS APOSTLESHIP WAS NOT OF MAN BUT FROM GOD (Gal 1:1) GOD CONFIRMED IT THROUGH MEN. WHY WOULD GOD DO THAT? 1) IT STRENGTHENED PAULS FAITH. 2) IT ALSO VALIDATED PAULS CALL TO THE PREACH 3) IT ALSO EMPHASISED THE INTERDEPENDENCE OF THE MEMBERS OF CHRISTS BODY THE CONFIRMATION PAUL AND BARNABAS GOT CAME THROUGH FELLOW BELIEVERS OF PROVEN INTEGRITY AND MATURITY. SPIRITUAL MEN DO NOT GO AHEAD AND MOVE WITHOUT THE CONFIRMATION OF FELLOW BELIEVERS. OUR ABILITY TO HEAR GOD THROUGH OTHERS DEPENDS TO LARGE EXTENT ON THE NATURE OF OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM. THERE ARE 3 SPECIAL RELATIONSHIPS THE NEW TESTAMENT ATTACHES SPECIAL IMPORTANCE TO IN THIS AREA. 1) PASTORS AND THEIR PEOPLE 2) HUSBANDS AND WIVES 3) PARENTS AND CHILDREN PASTORS AND THEIR PEOPLE Heb 13:7 Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their conduct, imitate their faith. IT’S NORMAL AND RIGHT FOR GOD’S PEOPLE TO HEAR THROUGH THEIR LEADERS HUSBANDS AND WIVES. Eph 5:22-24 Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body. But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything. GOD HAS MADE THE HUSBAND RESPONSIBLE FOR CARING FOR THE WIFE AS WELL AS HER SPIRITUAL CONDITION PARENTS AND CHILDREN Eph 6:1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. GOD CAN CONFIRM THINGS THROUGH THE PARENTS. WE SHOULD EXPECT TO HEAR THE VOICE OF GOD THROUGH THESE RELATIONSHIPS Rev 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.

This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. JOHN USED THREE THEMES THROUGHOUT THE FIVE CHAPTERS; OBEDIENCE, LOVE AND TRUTH. A SPIRIT CONTROLLED MIND KNOWS AND UNDERSTANDS TRUTH, A SPIRIT CONTROLLED HEART FLOWS IN LOVE, AND A SPIRIT CONTROLLED WILL INCLINES US TO OBEDIENCE; THERE ARE BASICALLY THREE MOTIVES FOR OBEDIENCE; WE MUST OBEY, WE NEED TO OBEY, WE WANT TO OBEY A SLAVE OBEYS BECAUSE HE MUST... AN EMPLOYEE OBEYS BECAUSE HE NEEDS TO OBEY... BUT A CHRISTIAN OBEYS HIS FATHER BECAUSE HE WANT TO OBEY... A CONNECTION WITH THE 3 LEVELS OF MATURITY MENTIONED IN 1 Jn 2:12-14 2:12 I am writing to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven you for His name’s sake. 13 I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. THREE TYPES OF CHRISTIANS, ACCORDING TO THEIR MATURITY LEVELS. THE “LITTLE CHILDREN” WHOSE ENTIRE EXPERIENCE AND EXCITEMENT REVOLVES AROUND THE KNOWLEDGE THAT THEIR SINS HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN. THE 2ND LEVEL OF CHRISTIAN MATURITY IS THE YOUNG. THEY ARE STRONG IN GOD’S WORD AND HAVE OVERCOME THE DEVIL (Vs 14). THE LAST GROUP IS THE “MATURE” WHO KNOW CHRIST. THESE PEOPLE, WALKING IN CLOSE RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD. THIS BOOK DEALS WITH WORLDLINESS. WORLDLINESS IS NOT SO MUCH A MATTER OF ACTIVITY AS IT IS AN ATTITUDE. WORLDLINESS NOT ONLY AFFECTS YOUR REPSONSE TO THE LOVE OF GOD, BUT IT ALSO AFFECTS YOUR REPONSE TO THE WILL OF GOD. 1 Jn 2:17 The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever. JOHN EXPOSES THE WORLDS SYSTEM WHICH USES THREE DEVICES TO TRAP CHRISTAINS. LUST OF THE FLESH, EYES, AND PRIDE OF LIFE. FIRST, FRIENDSHIP OF THE WORLD DEVELOPS: James 4:4 You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. THEN THE CHRISTIAN BECOMES SPOTTED BY THE WORLD: James 1:27 Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world. THIRDLY, THE BELIEVER BECOMES CONFORMED TO THE WORLD: Rom 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. FOURTHLY, HE BECOMES CONDEMENED WITH THE WORLD: 1 Cor 11:32 But when we are judged, we are disciplined by the Lord so that we will not be condemned along with the world. GOD WAS WARNING HIS FAMILY ABOUT CONFLICT BETWEEN LIGHT AND DARKNESS, LOVE AND HATRED, AND TRUTH AND ERROR. THEME VERSE 1 John 1:5 This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. 2 JOHN 2 John HE IS GOING TO HIGHLIGHT TRUTH AND IT IS SOMETHING THAT WE ARE TO WALK IN. John USES THE WORD TRUTH FIVE TIMES IN THE FIST 4 VERSES. ABIDING AFFECTS OUR LIFESTYLE THE WORD NEEDS TO BECOMES NATURAL IN ACTION... JOHN’S SPECIAL BURDEN IS THAT CHRISTIANS LOVE ONE ANOTHER. OUR PICTURE OF JESUS IN 2 & 3 JOHN IS “TRUTH AND LOVE” 6 And this is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, that you should walk in it. THEME VERSE 2 John 5 Now I ask you, lady, not as though I were writing to you a new commandment, but the one which we have had from the beginning, that we love one another. 3 JOHN JOHN USES “BELOVED” WHICH IN THE GREEK APPEARS TEN TIMES IN THESE THREE EPISTLES. “The one Whom I love in the truth” (Vs 1) HE KICKS OFF THE IMPORANCE OF KNOWNG GOD’S WILL TO PROSPER AND BE IN HEALTH AS OUR SOUL PROSPERS (2) I BELIEVE SOUL PROSPERITY IS GROWING IN THE WISDOM OF GOD Prov 3:16 Long life is in her right hand; In her left hand are riches and honor. JOHN EXHORTS THE READER TO “imitate what is good, not what is evil” (Vs 11) THEME VERSE TPT 3 John 2 Beloved friend, I pray that you are prospering in every way and that you continually enjoy good health, just as your soul is prospering. JUDE JUDE WAS THE HALF BROTHER OF JESUS. HE CALLS HIMSELF A BOND-SERVANT OF JESUS AND BROTHER OF JAMES (Vs 1). JUDE’S GREAT DESIRE WAS TO KEEP PEOPLE FROM FALLING SPIRITUALLY; HE WAS CONTENDING FOR THE FAITH (Vs 3) JUDE TALKS ABOUT BACKSLIDING OR APOSTASY THERE ARE THREE MAJOR CHARACTERISTICS OF AND APOSTATE HE IS UNGODLY (Vs 4) HE TURNS GRACE INTO LASCIVIOUSNESS (Vs 4) HE DENIES THAT JESUS IS LORD (Vs 4) ENOCH PROPHECIES ABOUT THE DOOM AND JUDGMENT ON THE UNGODLY. 14 It was also about these men that Enoch, in the seventh generation from Adam, prophesied, saying, “Behold, the Lord came with many thousands of His holy ones, 15 to execute judgment upon all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their ungodly deeds which they have done in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.” HE GIVES THREE THINGS THAT CAUSE PEOPLE TO BACKSLIDE. HE USES 3 PEOPLE AS EXAMPLES TO TEACH US. (MEN ENOCH REFERED TO) (Vs 11) THE WAY OF CAIN, THE ERROR OF BALAAM, AND THE REBELLION OF KORAH. CAIN, HIS HEART WASN’T RIGHT... HE WOULD NOT CORRECT IT. 1 John 3:11 For this is the message which you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another; 12 not as Cain, who was of the evil one and slew his brother. And for what reason did he slay him? Because his deeds were evil, and his brother’s were righteous. DOCTRINE KEEPS HEART RIGHT. WHEN WE ARE ASLEEP TO THE TRUTH WE ARE IN TROUBLE. BALAAM... HE SOLD OUT FOR MONEY... HE SACRIFICED HIS FAITH TO GET MONEY... MONEY BECAME MORE IMPORTANT THAN GOD’S WILL. KORAH... HE GOT INTO PRIDE. HE WANTED TO BE THE LEADER. THE REBELLION WAS A LUST FOR POWER. Vs 12-13 HE USES FIVE WORD PICTURES FOR THIS APOSTASY. THE EARTH – “LIKE HIDDEN ROCKS – UNSEEN DANGERS” THE AIR – LIKE CLOUDS WITHOUT WATER – OFFERING FALSE PROMISES AND CARRIED BY THE WIND OR EVIL SPIRITS. THE TREES – “LIKE TREES THAT ARE DEAD TO THE FRUIT OF PROFESSION AND DEAD TO THE ROOT OF POSSESSION THE SEA – “LIKE WILD WAVES – PUTTING FORTH WASTED EFFORTS THE STARRY HEAVENS – “LIKE WANDERING STARS—AIMLESS IN THEIR COURSE. THE CONTRASTS ARE; THAT INSTEAD OF DANGEROUS ROCKS, WE CAN BE LIVING STONES; INSTEAD OF WATERLESS CLOUDS, WE CAN BE A SOURCE OF LIVING WATER; INSTEAD OF DEAD TREES, WE CAN BE TREES OF RIGHTEOUSNESS; INSTEAD OF RAGING WAVES, WE CAN BE LIKE PEAEFUL RIVERS; INSTEAD OF WANDERING STARS, WE CAN SINE AS THE STARS FOREVER AND EVER. OUR PICTURE OF JESUS IN JUDE IS “OUR SPIRITUAL ANCHOR” WE CAN KEEP OURSELVES IN THE LOVE OF GOD. WE CAN BUILD OURSELVES UP ON OUR MOST HOLY FAITH BY PRAYING IN THE SPIRIT. (Vs 20-21) WE CAN LET THE WORD OF GRACE BUILD US UP, AND WE CAN KEEP LOOKING FOR CHRIST’S RETURN. THEME VERSE Jude 3 Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints.

Matt 13:11 Jesus answered them, “To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted. 12 For whoever has to him more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him. 13 Therefore I speak to them in parables; because while seeing they do not see, and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. 15 for the heart of this people has become dull, with their ears they scarcely hear, and they have closed their eyes, otherwise they would see with their eyes, hear with their ears, and understand with their heart and return, and I would heal them.’ HEARING IS THE KEY FACTOR FOR SUCCESS IN OUR WALK WITH GOD HEARING IS NOT BASED ON INTELLIGENCE. DEVELOPING “A HEARING HEART” 1 Kings 3:9 So give Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people to discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?” “UNDERSTANDING HEART” IN THE HEBREW LITERALLY MEANS, “A HEARING HEART” 4 AREAS FOR CULTIVATION; ATTENTION, HUMILITY, TIME AND QUIETNESS WORSHIP IS KEY. Ps 95:6 Come, let us worship and bow down, Let us kneel before the LORD our Maker. 7 For He is our God, And we are the people of His pasture and the sheep of His hand. Today, if you would hear His voice, 8 Do not harden your hearts, PREPARATION FOR HEARING GOD’S VOICE IS BEST ACHIEVED BY WORSHIP. (Acts 13:2) N.T. Example YOU CAN’T MAKE GOD SPEAK TO YOU BUT YOU CAN MAKE YOURSELF AVAILABLE. MEN OF GOD WHO HEARD HIS VOICE. MOSES – SOLITUDE – (40 Years in desert) Numb 7:89 Now when Moses went into the tent of meeting to speak with Him, he heard the voice speaking to him from above the mercy seat that was on the ark of the testimony, from between the two cherubim, so He spoke to him. THERE WAS A PLACE WHERE GOD SPOKE TO MOSES. THIS MERCY SEAT WAS A PLACE WHERE THE BLOOD WAS SPRINKLED TO COVER AND FORGIVE SIN. SIN IN OUR LIVES WILL ALWAYS KEEP US FROM HEARING FROM THE LORD. Matt 6:6 But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you. Isaiah 30:15 In repentance and rest you will be saved, In quietness and trust is your strength.” But you were not willing, ELIJAH – Persistent in prayer 1 Kings 18 HE HEARD THE WORD OF THE LORD CONCERNING RAIN. HE CAME TO MT HOREB WHERE GOD HAD MADE HIS FIRST COVENANT WITH ISREAL. 1 Kings 19:11 So He said, “Go forth and stand on the mountain before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD was passing by! KJV “a still small voice.” MSG “a gentle and quiet whisper.” 13 When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. 13 And behold, a voice came to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” STRENGHT AND NEW DIRECTION COME FROM HEARING HIS VOICE. JEREMIAH – Location, location, location Jer 18:1 The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD saying, 2 “Arise and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will announce My words to you.” THERE ARE TIMES YOU HAVE TO BE IN THE RIGHT PLACE TO HEAR HIM 3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was, making something on the wheel. 4 But the vessel that he was making of clay was spoiled in the hand of the potter; so he remade it into another vessel, as it pleased the potter to make. 5 Then the word of the LORD came to me saying, 6 “Can I not, O house of Israel, deal with you as this potter does?” declares the LORD. JEREMIAH COULDN’T GET THE MESSAGE UNTIL HE WAS IN THE RIGHT PLACE. SAMUEL – Trained in the temple/a mouthpiece for God 1 Samuel 3:3 Samuel was lying down in the temple of the LORD where the ark of God was, 4 that the LORD called Samuel; and he said, “Here I am.” 5 Then he ran to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he said, “I did not call, lie down again.” So he went and lay down. GOD WILL NEVER TELL YOU SOMETHING CONTRARY TO HIS WORD. 2 Tim 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. GOD’S VOICE WILL ALWAYS PRODUCE PEACE.

PETER’S ORIGINAL NAME WAS SIMON WHICH MEANS “WAIVERING ONE” JESUS SAID, I’M GOING TO CALL YOU PETER “LITTLE ROCK” ONE WHO WENT FROM WAIVERING TO A ROCK. “IF HE CAN MAKE ME A ROCK HE CAN MAKE YOU ONE”... HE CALLS US “LIVING STONES” OUR PICTURE OF JESUS IS THE “CHOICE CORNERSTONE” 1 Pet 2:6 For this is contained in Scripture: “BEHOLD, I LAY IN ZION A CHOICE STONE, A PRECIOUS CORNER stone, AND HE WHO BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.” PETER PLACES GREAT EMPHASIS ON THE WORD 1 Pet 1:22 Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart, 23 for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God. 24 For, “all flesh is like grass, and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls off, but the word of the Lord endures forever.” And this is the word which was preached to you. 2:1 Therefore, putting aside all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander, 2 like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation, PETER IS GOING TO DEAL A LOT WITH SUFFERING AND TRIALS. PETER USES THE TERM “FIERY TRIAL.” (4:12-13) PETER WANTS US TO KNOW THAT GRACE WILL ALWAYS TAKE CARE OF TEMPTATION. 1 Pet 1:6 In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, 4:10 As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. PRAY AND REJOICE... JESUS IS SEEN IN THIS BOOK AS OUR EXAMPLE. 1 Pet 2:21 For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps, PETER REFERS TO JESUS AS THE SHEPHERD AND BISHOP OF OUR SOULS (2:25). THE BEST MARRIAGE ADVICE IN Ch 3 THE BEST ADVICE FOR HANDLING THE CARES OF LIFE CH 5... “CAST THEM ON THE LORD” AND RESIST THE DEVIL THEME VERSE 1 Pet 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 2 PETER IN 2 Peter THE EMPHASIS IS ON KNOWLEDGE AND GRACE. HE OPENS WITH 1:2 “Grace and peace be multiplied to you through knowledge of God” HE CLOSES THE LETTER WITH “Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (3:18) HE’S GOING TO TALK ABOUT THE GIFT OF KNOWLEDGE, THE GROWTH OF KNOWLEDGE AND THE GROUND OF KNOWLEDGE. Chapter 2 HE TALKS ABOUT FALSE PEOPLE, THEIR CHARACTER, THEIR CLAIMS AND THEIR OUTCOME. THEN HE TALKS ABOUT THE TRUE CHRISTIAN GREAT INSTRUCTIONS ABOUT THE COMING OF THE LORD IN Ch 3. SIGNS, AND IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW. AND HE SPECIFICALLY MENTIONS THE LAST DAY’S. 2 Pet 3:3 Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts, 4 and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation.” 5 For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water, 6 through which the world at that time was destroyed, being flooded with water. 7 But by His word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. 8 But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. 9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. OUR PICTURE OF JESUS HERE IS “THE LORD IS PATIENT” 14 Therefore, beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, spotless and blameless, 15 and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; just as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you THEME VERSE 2 Peter 1:4 For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.

Matt 13:11 Jesus answered them, “To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted. 12 For whoever has (AMP Spiritual knowledge), to him more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him. 13 Therefore I speak to them in parables; because while seeing they do not see, and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they (AMP grasp) understand. 15 for the heart of this people has become dull, with their ears they scarcely hear, and they have closed their eyes, otherwise they would see with their eyes, hear with their ears, and understand with their heart and return, and I would heal them.’ Acts 7:51 “You men who are stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears are always resisting the Holy Spirit; you are doing just as your fathers did. THE PROBLEM IS SPIRITUAL DEAFNESS. GOD SUMMED IT ALL UP TO THE PROPHET JEREMIAH Jer 7:23 But this is what I commanded them, saying, ‘Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you will be My people; and you will walk in all the way which I command you, that it may be well with you.’ 24 Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but walked in their own counsels and in the stubbornness of their evil heart, and went backward and not forward. HEARING IS THE KEY FACTOR FOR SUCCESS IN OUR WALK WITH GOD HEARING IS NOT BASED ON INTELLIGENCE. WE DON’T HEAR GOD’S VOICE WITH OUR PHYSICAL EARS. WE HEAR GOD’S VOICE WITH OUR HEARTS. 1 Cor 3:16 Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 3 DISTINCTIVE FEATURES OF HEARING GOD’S VOICE. 1) HEARING GOD’S VOICE IS PERSONAL 2) HEARING GOD’S VOICE IS INTANGIBLE 3) HEARING GOD’S VOICE IS PRESENT THIS WAS THE LIFESTYLE OF JESUS HIMSELF Isaiah 50:4 The Lord GOD has given Me the tongue of disciples, That I may know how to sustain the weary one with a word. He awakens Me morning by morning, He awakens My ear to listen as a disciple. THE TONGUE OF THE LEARNED IS THE TONGUE OF THE SPIRIT. NIV “He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being taught.” 5 The Lord GOD has opened My ear; And I was not disobedient Nor did I turn back. DEVELOPING “A HEARING HEART” 1 Kings 3:9 So give Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people to discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?” THE HEBREW LITERALLY SAY’S, “A HEARING HEART” CULTIVATE AN INWARD SENSITIVITY TOWARD GOD ATTENTION AND HUMILITY” (Prov 4:20) Prov 5:1 My son, give attention to my wisdom, Incline (Bow) your ear to my understanding; Prov 22:17 Incline (Bow) your ear and hear the words of the wise, And apply your (HEART) mind to my knowledge; TPT Listen carefully and open your heart. Drink in the wise revelation that I impart. 1)YOUR UNDIVIDED ATTENTION... 2) HUMILITY/TEACHABLITY. Ps 4:4 Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. TO HEAR GOD’S VOICE REQUIRES TIME AND QUIETNESS. Ps 46:10 Be still (cease striving), and know that I am God: TPT Surrender your anxiety! Be silent and stop your striving and you will see that I am God. IN THE STILLNESS WE HEAR HIS VOICE. THIS STILLNESS IS GOING TO REQUIRE TIME. WAITING ON THE LORD. Ps 62:1 My soul waits in silence for God only; From Him is my salvation. 5 My soul, wait in silence for God only, THIS IS WHERE WORSHIP IS KEY. DRAWING CLOSE TO THE LORD SHOULD BE OUR LIFETIME PURSUIT. JAMES SAY’S, THAT WILL REQUIRE HUMILITY (James 4:6,7,8,10)

MOST SCHOLARS HOLD TO THE VIEW THAT IT WAS WRITTEN TO JEWISH BELIEVERS LIVING IN ROME. (13:24 “THEY OF ITALY”) HEBREWS IS A BOOK THAT TELLS US JESUS IS BETTER THAN… OUR PICTURE OF JESUS “HE IS THE BEST” “BETTER” OCCURS 13 TIMES IN THE KJV Better than angels (1:4) We are persuaded of better things of you (6:9) The less is blessed of the better (7:7) The bringing in of a better hope (7:19) Jesus made a surety of a better testament (7:22) He is the mediator of a better covenant (8:6) Established upon better promises (8:6) Better sacrifices (9:23) A better and an enduring substance (10:34) A better country (11:16) A better resurrection (11:35) God having provided some better things for US (11:40) The blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel (12:24) ANOTHER PHRASE THAT IS MENTIONED 6 TIMES IS “PARTAKER” As the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same (2:14) Holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling (3:1) For we are made partakers of Christ (3:14) Were made partakers of the Holy Spirit (6:4) But if ye be without chastisement, wereof all are partakers (12:8) But he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness (12:10) THE WORD “HEAVEN” OR “HEAVENLIES” IS USED16 TIMES SO THERE IS A BIG EMPHASIS ON THAT. Ex. We are partakers of the heavenly calling (3:1) THERE ARE ABOUT 14 DIFFERENT CONTRASTS THROUGHOUT HEBREWS... Jesus is set in contrast with angels (1,2) Christ and Aaron are contrasted (4:14-5:10) The “rest” of Canaan is contrasted with the “rest of God” (3,4) The old and new covenants are set in contrast (8) HEBREWS REVEALS INSIGHT INTO JESUS ROLE IN OUR LIVES AS HIGHT PRIEST TPT 4:14 So then, we must cling in faith to all we know to be true. For we have a magnificent King-Priest, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who rose into the heavenly realm for us, and now sympathizes with us in our frailty. 15 He understands humanity, for as a Man, our magnificent King-Priest was tempted in every way just as we are, and conquered sin. 16 So now we come freely and boldly to where love is enthroned, to receive mercy’s kiss and discover the grace we urgently need to strengthen us in our time of weakness. HEBREWS IS MOST KNOWN FOR CHAPTER 11 “THE HALL OF FAITH” THEME VERSE Hebrews 9:15 For this reason He is the mediator of a new covenant, so that, since a death has taken place for the redemption of the transgressions that were committed under the first covenant, those who have been called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance. JAMES JAMES WAS THE HALF BROTHER OF JESUS. JAMES IS CONSIDERED A WISDOM BOOK... IT’S THE PROVERBS OF THE NEW TESTAMENT OUR PICTURE OF JESUS IN JAMES IS “THE WISDOM OF GOD” THIS BOOK DEALS WITH FIVE BASIC PROBLEMS 1) HOW WE ARE TO HANDLE TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS, 2) HOW WE ARE TO USE OUR TONGUE, 3) HOW WE ARE NOT TO FIGHT AND COVET, 4) HOW WE ARE NOT TO LIVE IN MATERIALISM, AND 5) HOW WE ARE TO PRAY. IT GIVES FIVE MARKS OF MATURITY 1) CH 1 WE CAN HAVE PATIENCE IN TESTING… 2) CH 2 OUR FAITH IS WORKING… HE COMPARES DEAD FAITH TO LIVING FAITH. HE MENTIONS DEMONIC FIATH. “Even the demons believe and tremble” GOD IS LOOKING FOR DYNAMIC FAITH. 3) CH 3 MATURITY IS WHEN YOU CAN CONTROL YOUR TONGUE… EXERCISE THE FRUIT OF SELF CONTROL IN THIS AREA 4) CH 4 MATURITY IS KNOWING HOW TO HANDLE THE WARS... FIVE KINDS OF WARS – CLASS WARS, EMPLOYMENT WARS, CHURCH WARS, PERSONAL WARS, AND INTERNAL WARS. 5) CH 5 DEALING WITH TROUBLES... ECONOMICAL TROUBLES, PHYSICAL TROUBLES, INTERNATIONAL TROUBLES, CHURCH TROUBLES, AND KNOWING THE POWER OF PRAYER A MATURE CHRISTIAN KNOWS WHAT TO DO IN TROUBLE – PRAY. SEVEN TIMES JAMES MENTIONS PRAYER AND THE POWER OF PRAYER; JAMES SPEAKS OF CHRIST’S SECONG COMING (James 5:8-9) THEME VERSE James 1:25 But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.

Matt 13:11 Jesus answered them, “To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted. 12 For whoever has, to him more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him. 13 Therefore I speak to them in parables; because while seeing they do not see, and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. 15 for the heart of this people has become dull, with their ears they scarcely hear, and they have closed their eyes, otherwise they would see with their eyes, hear with their ears, and understand with their heart and return, and I would heal them.’ 3 MAIN DISPENSATIONS RECOGNIZED IN THE BIBLE. ONE REQUIREMENT IN EACH DISPENSATION. HEARING HIS VOICE THE THING THAT SINGLES THE BELIEVER OUT FROM ALL OTHER PEOPLE IS THEY HEAR THE VOICE OF GOD. WHEN WE TRULY HEAR FROM HEAVEN IT CHANGES OUR STANDARDS, OUR VALUES, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, THE WAY WE LIVE. 3 DISTINCTIVE FEATURES OF HEARING GOD’S VOICE. 1) HEARING GOD’S VOICE IS PERSONAL 2) HEARING GOD’S VOICE IS INTANGIBLE 3) HEARING GOD’S VOICE IS PRESENT 1) HEARING GOD’S VOICE IS VERY PERSONAL. OUR PROTECTION AND BLESSING IS IN HEARING HIS VOICE. 2) HEARING GOD’S VOICE IS INTANGIBLE. IT CAN’T BE TOUCHED. GOD’S VOICE IS NOT RESTRICTED TO A PLACE. 3) HEARING GOD’S VOICE IS PRESENT HEARING HIS VOICE FORCES YOU INTO A PRESENT RELATIONSHIP, A PRESENT EXPERIENCE. HEARING HIM GIVES US THAT PERSONAL AND PRESENT RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM. IF WE ARE CALLED TO LIVE A FAITH LIFE THEN WE UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF HEARING IN CONNECTION WITH THAT WALK OF FAITH. THE RESULT OF HEARING IS FAITH Rom 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. TWO GREEK WORDS FOR THE WORD…“WORD” LOGOS; THE MIND OF GOD, THE PURPOSE, TOTAL COUNSEL OF GOD RHEMA; THE SPOKEN WORD WE ARE INSTRUCTED TO TAKE THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT WHICH IS THE WORD (RHEMA) OF GOD (Eph 6:17). SOMETHING SPECIFIC WE USE FOR THE MOMENT (NEED) Matt 4:4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE, BUT ON EVERY WORD (RHEMA) THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.’” LOGOS; ETERNAL IN THE HEAVENS, UNCHANGED RHEMA; THE SPOKEN WORD, SPECIFIC. TO YOU OR FROM YOU IN Matt 4:4 Jesus compared the Rhema with natural Bread. GOD’S WORD NOURISHES AND FEEDS OUR SPIRIT WHEN WE HEAR. THE HOLY SPIRIT QUICKENS THE WORD TO US FOR OUR DAY OR TIME. THIS WAS THE LIFESTYLE OF JESUS HIMSELF Isaiah 50:4 The Lord GOD has given Me the tongue of disciples, That I may know how to sustain the weary one with a word. He awakens Me morning by morning, He awakens My ear to listen as a disciple. 5 The Lord GOD has opened My ear; And I was not disobedient Nor did I turn back. THE RESULTS OF JESUS LISTENING ARE IMPORTANT. 1) HE HAD WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT FOR OTHERS. 2) HE RECEIVED PERSONAL DIRECTION FOR HIS LIFE EACH DAY. 3) HE RECEIVED STRENGTH John 8:47 He who is of God hears the words of God; for this reason you do not hear them, because you are not of God.” HOW DO WE LEARN TO HEAR AND DEVELOP OUR LISTENING? WE ARE LIKE BABIES WHO HAVE TO GROW UP. (1 Pet 2:2) DEVELOPING OUR SPIRITUAL EAR… “A HEARING HEART” 1 Kings 3:9 So give Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people to discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?” “UNDERSTANDING HEART” IN THE HEBREW LITERALLY SAY’S, “A HEARING HEART” WE NEED TO CULTIVATE AN INWARD SENSITIVITY TOWARD GOD THE REAL KEY TO BLESSING IS A HEART SENSITIVE TO HIS VOICE.

A YOUNG PASTOR ON THE SMALL ISLAND SOUTH OF GREECE CALLED CRETE. TITUS HAD SERVED PAUL ON SPECIAL ASSIGNMENTS TO CORINTH (2 Cor 7:13,14; 8:6, 16, 23; 12;18). PAUL COMMENDED TITUS SAYING, “He is my partner and fellow helper concerning you…(2 Cor 8:23). PAUL GIVES TITUS INSTRUCTIONS FOR PASTORING THE CHURCH AT CRETE Titus 1:4 To Titus, my true child in a common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior. 5 For this reason I left you in Crete, that you would set in order what remains and appoint elders in every city as I directed you, TITUS HAD TO CORRECT TWO WRONGS; 1) UNRIGHTEOUSNESS AMOUNG THE CRETANS 2) FALSE TEACHERS WHO WERE TRYING TO MIX THE LAW WITH THE GOSPEL OF GRACE. 16 They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work. THE PHRASE USED AGAIN AND AGAIN IN TITUS IS “GOOD DEEDS (WORKS)” 2:7 in all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with purity in doctrine, dignified, 14 who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds. 3:8 This is a trustworthy statement; and concerning these things I want you to speak confidently, so that those who have believed God will be careful to engage in good deeds. These things are good and profitable for men. 14 Our people must also learn to engage in good deeds to meet pressing needs, so that they will not be unfruitful. TITUS IS MENTIONED 13 TIMES IN THE PAULINE EPISTLES PAUL SAID SOMETHING INTERESTING ABOUT TITUS 2 Cor 2:12 Now when I came to Troas for the gospel of Christ and when a door was opened for me in the Lord, 13 I had no rest for my spirit, not finding Titus my brother; but taking my leave of them, I went on to Macedonia. 14 But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place. SOMETIMES IN THIS FACE PACED WORLD WE CAN FORGET PEOPLE. OUR PICTURE OF JESUS IN TITUS IS “OUR BLESSED HOPE” Titus 2:13 looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, THEME VERESES Titus 2:11-14 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds. PHILEMON PHILEMON MEANS “AFFECTIONATE.” BIG VERSE IN A SMALL LETTER… 1:6 and I pray that the fellowship of your faith may become effective through the knowledge of every good thing which is in you for Christ’s sake. AMP [And I pray] that the participation in and sharing of your faith may produce and promote full recognition and appreciation and understanding and precise knowledge of every good [thing] that is ours in [our identification with] Christ Jesus [and unto His glory]. THIS EPISTLE SHOWS THE DOCTRINE OF IMPUTATION THE PAYING OF A DEBT BY ONE FOR ANOTHER. PAUL MEETS PHILEMON IN ROME AND GETS HIM BACK TO GOD AND HE BECOMES LIKE A SON TO HIM. 8 Therefore, though I have enough confidence in Christ to order you to do what is proper, 9 yet for love’s sake I rather appeal to you—since I am such a person as Paul, the aged, and now also a prisoner of Christ Jesus 10 I appeal to you for my child Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my imprisonment, 14 but without your consent I did not want to do anything, so that your goodness would not be, in effect, by compulsion but of your own free will. 17 If then you regard me a partner, accept him as you would me. 18 But if he has wronged you in any way or owes you anything, charge that to my account; THE DOCTRINE OF IMPUTATION. THIS IS WHAT JESUS DID FOR US. ALL THAT WE OWED OR EVER WOULD OWE JESUS HAS PAID THE PRICE FOR IT ALL. 19 I, Paul, am writing this with my own hand, I will repay it (not to mention to you that you owe to me even your own self as well OUR PICTURE OF JESUS IN PHILEMON IS “OUR RANSOME” 20 Yes, brother, let me benefit from you in the Lord; refresh my heart in Christ. 21 Having confidence in your obedience, I write to you, since I know that you will do even more than what I say. ONESIMUS WENT FROM USELESS TO USEFUL. (Vs11) WHEN A MAN COMES TO JESUS, HE IS TRANSFORMED FROM WASTE TO WEALTH. THEME VERSE Philemon 6 I pray for you that the faith we share may effectively deepen your understanding of every good thing that belongs to you in Christ. (TPT)

15 for the heart of this people has become dull, with their ears they scarcely hear, and they have closed their eyes, otherwise they would see with their eyes, hear with their ears, and understand with their heart and return, and I would heal them.’ John 7:37 Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’” Genesis 2:10 Say’s a river flowed out of Eden to water the garden; and from there it divided and became four rivers. 4 DISTINCT RIVERS OF THE Holy Spirit. RIVERS; PISHON (Edification), GIHON (Revelation), TIGRIS (Power) & EUPHRATES (Intercession). GIHON – MEANS TO LABOR TO COME FORTH. IGNORANCE IS THE BREEDING GROUND FOR DECEPTION. DECEPTION INCLUDES THE ILLUSION OF KNOWLEDGE. Heb 1:1 God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. 3 MAIN DISPENSATIONS RECOGNIZED IN THE BIBLE. 1) THE DISPENSATION OF THE PATRIARCHS… Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Issac and Jacob. GOD DEALT WITH INDIVIDUALS AND THEIR FAMILIES. THEY RELATED DIRECTLY TO GOD. 2) THE DISPENSATION OF LAW God dealt with the nation of Israel and put them under law. 3) THE DISPENSATION OF THE GOSPEL OR GRACE, DIRECTED TO THE WHOLE HUMAN RACE. THIS DISPENSATION REQUIRES AN INDIVIDUAL RESPONSE. ONE REQUIREMENT IN EACH DISPENSATION *(HEARING HIS VOICE)* ISRAEL AT THE WATERS OF MARAH Exodus 15:26 And He said, “If you will give earnest heed to the voice of the LORD your God, and do what is right in His sight, and give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have put on the Egyptians; for I, the LORD, am your healer. ISRAEL CAME TO THE BASE OF MOUNT SINA Exodus 19:3 Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to him from the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob and tell the sons of Israel: 4 ‘You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings, and brought you to Myself. 5 Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine; 6 and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ THE BENEFITS; BECOMING A UNIQUE PEOPLE, LIVING ON A HIGHER LEVEL, LIVING IN PROVISION AND BLESSING UNKNOWN TO OTHERS 3 PHASES OF GOD DEALING WITH ISRAEL 1) GOD BROUGHT THE PEOPLE TO HIMSELF… 2) GOD SAY’S, I WANT YOU TO OBEY MY VOICE. 3) IF YOU’LL KEEP MY COVENANT. YOU’LL BE A KINGDOM OF PRIESTS MOSES WORDS TO ISRAEL JUST BEFORE ENTERING CANNAN Deuteronomy 28:1 Now it shall be, if you diligently obey the (VOICE OF) LORD your God, being careful to do all His commandments which I command you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. 2 All these blessings will come upon you and overtake you if you obey (VOICE OF) the LORD your God: THE OPPOSITE: 28:15 But it shall come about, if you do not obey the (VOICE OF) LORD your God, to observe to do all His commandments and His statutes with which I charge you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you WE DECIDE WHAT WE WANT BASED ON OUR HEARING AND DOING. GOD CONFIRMED THIS TO ISRAEL THROUGH JEREMIAH AND THE IMPORTANCE OF HEARING. Jer 7:22 For I did not speak to your fathers, or command them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings and sacrifices. 23 But this is what I commanded them, saying, ‘Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you will be My people; and you will walk in all the way which I command you, that it may be well with you.’ 24 Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but walked in their own counsels and in the stubbornness of their evil heart, and went backward and not forward. HEARING AND OBEYING IS THE KEY TO WALKING IN THE BLESSINGS John 10:3 To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he puts forth all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. 5 A stranger they simply will not follow, but will flee from him, because they do not know the voice of strangers.” THE BASIS OF OUR RELATIONSHIP IS HEARING AND FOLLOWING 16 I have other sheep, which are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will hear My voice; and they will become one flock with one shepherd. 27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; THERE ARE 3 THINGS THAT MARK OUT THE TRUE FOLLOWERS OF THE LORD. THEY HEAR HIS VOICE, HE KNOWS THEM, AND THEY FOLLOW HIM. WHEN WE TRULY HEAR FROM HEAVEN IT CHANGES OUR STANDARDS, OUR VALUES, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, THE WAY WE LIVE. 3 DISTINCTIVE FEATURES OF HEARING GOD’S VOICE. 1) HEARING GOD’S VOICE IS PERSONAL 2) HEARING GOD’S VOICE IS INTANGABLE 3) HEARING GOD’S VOICE IS PRESENT

TIMOTHY HAD BEEN LEFT AT THE CHURCH IN EPHESUS AND WAS NOT HAPPY THERE. IT WAS DIFFICULT PAUL ADMONISHES HIM TO, “BE FAITHFUL.” PAUL USED THE WORD “PISTOS” (FAITHFUL) 17 TIMES IN 1 & 2 TIMOTHY AND TITUS. PAUL WROTE TO TIMOTHY TO GIVE INSIGHT INTO HOW THE CHURCH FUNCTIONS AND LEADERSHIP IN THE CHURCH. HE ALSO WROTE TO ENCOURAGE HIM TO NEVER GIVE UP. 1 Tim 3:15 but in case I am delayed, I write so that you will know how one ought to conduct himself in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth. TIMOTHY AND TITUS WERE SPIRITUAL SONS TO PAUL 1 Tim 1:2 To Timothy, my true child in the faith PAUL OFTEN REMINDED TIMOTHY THAT HE WAS CHOSEN FOR MINISTRY. 1 Tim 1:18 This command I entrust to you, Timothy, my son, in accordance with the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you fight the good fight, 4:14 Do not neglect the spiritual gift within you, which was bestowed on you through prophetic utterance with the laying on of hands by the presbytery. TIMOTHY WAS FAITHFUL TO THE LORD 1 Cor 4:17 For this reason I have sent to you Timothy, who is my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, and he will remind you of my ways which are in Christ, just as I teach everywhere in every church. TIMOTHY HAD A DEEP CONCERN FOR GOD’S PEOPLE Phil 2:20 For I have no one else of kindred spirit who will genuinely be concerned for your welfare. 21 For they all seek after their own interests, not those of Christ Jesus. 22 But you know of his proven worth, that he served with me in the furtherance of the gospel like a child serving his father. PAUL TAUGHT TIMOTHY HOW TO EARN THE RESPECT HE WAS NOT GETTING. HOW TO DEAL WITH AGE DIFFERENCES AND VARIOUS CLASSES OF PEOPLE IN THE CHURCH. The number one thing Paul emphasized - Timothy must be strong in the word and strong in teaching his people the word. PAUL WAS A DEVELOPER OF PEOPLE. PAUL GIVES TIMOTHY A PATTERN FOR PRAYER Ch 2:1-4 1 Tim 2:1 First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 8 Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension. CONCERNING WOMEN 9 Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments, 10 but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness. PAUL GIVES THE BEST PICTURE OF THE PASTOR IN Ch 3:2-5 1 Tim 3:2 An overseer, then, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3 not addicted to wine or pugnacious, but gentle, peaceable, free from the love of money. 4 He must be one who manages his own household well, keeping his children under control with all dignity 5 (but if a man does not know how to manage his own household, how will he take care of the church of God?), THE PICTURE OF A DEACON 8 Deacons likewise must be men of dignity, not double-tongued, or addicted to much wine or fond of sordid gain, 9 but holding to the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. 10 These men must also first be tested; then let them serve as deacons if they are beyond reproach. 11 Women must likewise be dignified, not malicious gossips, but temperate, faithful in all things. 12 Deacons must be husbands of only one wife, and good managers of their children and their own households. 13 For those who have served well as deacons obtain for themselves a high standing and great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus. PAUL GIVES US A BEAUTIFUL PICTURE OF JESUS IN THIS LETTER. 1 Tim 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, OUR PICTURE OF JESUS IN 1 Timothy IS “THE MAN, THE MEDIATOR” Ch 4 HE GIVES SOME INSTRUCTION ON LAST DAY’S AND BEING A GOOD MINISTER… NOURISHED ON THE WORDS OF THE FAITH (6) Ch 5 HE DEALS WITH WIDOWS AND ELDERS Ch 6 HE DEALS WITH CONTENTMENT 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. THEME VERSE 1 Tim 3:16 By common confession, great is the mystery of godliness: He who was revealed in the flesh, Was vindicated in the Spirit, Seen by angels, Proclaimed among the nations, Believed on in the world, Taken up in glory. 2 TIMOTHY PAUL WROTE THIS LETTER DURING HIS LAST IMPRISONMENT (65AD) TIMOTHY’S DAD WAS GREEK AND HIS MOM WAS JEWISH. Paul makes mention of power of a parents influence and said that his mom (Lois) and his GRANDMOTHER (Eunice) were big influences on his faith(1:5) 2 Tim 1:13 Retain the standard of sound words which you have heard from me, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. 14 Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you. PAUL KEEPS TELLING TIMOTHY TO LOOK AT HIS EXAMPLE 2:1 You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. AT THIS POINT PAUL BEGINS TO REVEAL SOME PICTURES Ch 2 - 7 PICTURES OF THE CHRISTIAN MINISTER The steward Vs 2 The soldier Vs 3-4 The athlete Vs 5 The farmer Vs 6 The workman Vs 15 The vessel Vs 20-21 The servant Vs 24 OUR PICTURE OF JESUS IN 2 Timothy IS “OUR MILITARY LEADER” Ch 3:1-9 PAUL MENTIONS END TIME SIGNS AGAIN. HE MENTIONS HIMSELF AND HIS LIFESTYLE THAT TIMOTHY CAN LOOK TO 10 Now you followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, perseverance, 11 persecutions, and sufferings, such as happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium and at Lystra; what persecutions I endured, and out of them all the Lord rescued me! 14 You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them, PAUL POINTS HIM BACK TO THE SCRIPTURES 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. 4:1 I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: 2 preach the word; HE MENTIONS HIS SOON DEPARTURE 4:6 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; 8 in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing. THEME VERSE 2 Tim 3:17 that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

JESUS IS…. NEW TESTAMENT “THE LION” IN MATTHEW “THE OX” IN MARK “THE MAN” IN LUKE “THE EAGLE” IN JOHN “THE CHURCH/BODY OF CHRIST” IN ACTS “THE BUTTERFLY” IN ROMANS “THE SANCTIFER” IN 1st CORINTHIANS “THE YES AND AMEN” IN 2ND CORINTHIANS “THE CRUCIFIED CHRIST” IN GALATIANS “RAISED & SEATED WITH HIM” IN EPHESIANS “THE MIND OF CHRIST” IN PHILIPPIANS “OUR HOPE OF GLORY” IN COLOSSIANS (47 PICTURES SO FAR) 1 THESSALONIANS THE MAIN SUBJECT OF THESE LETTERS IS THE CATCHING AWAY OF THE CHURCH AND THE RETURN OF THE LORD. OUR PICTURE OF JESUS IN 1 & 2 THESSALONIANS IS “THE BELIEVERS SALVATION” 1 Thess 5:9 For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him. BACK IN PAULS DAY THE POPULATION WAS AROUND 200K MOSTLY GREEKS AND SOME ROMANS AND A STRONG JEWISH MINORITY. PAUL EVENTUALLY REACHED THESSALONICA AND MINISTERED IN THE SYNAGOGUE FOR 3 SABBATHS AND THE LORD WORKED IN POWER. (ACTS 17:1-9) HE LEFT BEHIND A THRIVING CHURCH. IT WAS WHEN TIMOHTY REJOINED PAUL AT CORINTH AND GAVE HIM THE REPORT ON THE NEW CHURCH THAT PAUL WROTE 1 Thessalonians. THESE TWO LETTERS TO THE THESSALONIANS REVEAL THE PROPHETICAL AND THE PRACTICAL. THE THESSALONIANS WERE A FAITH BUNCH! 1 Thess 1:2 We give thanks to God always for all of you, making mention of you in our prayers; 3 constantly bearing in mind your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the presence of our God and Father, 6 You also became imitators of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much tribulation with the joy of the Holy Spirit, 7 so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. 8 For the word of the Lord has sounded forth from you, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith toward God has gone forth, so that we have no need to say anything. 9 For they themselves report about us what kind of a reception we had with you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve a living and true God, 10 and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, that is Jesus, who rescues us from the wrath to come. 3:11 Now may our God and Father Himself and Jesus our Lord direct our way to you; 12 and may the Lord cause you to increase and abound in love for one another, and for all people, just as we also do for you; 13 so that He may establish your hearts without blame in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all His saints. PAUL INSISTED THAT THE DOCTRINE OF THE RETURN OF JESUS CHRIST MUST BE MORE THAN A DOCTRINE. IT MUST BE DYNAMIC IN OUR LIVES AND IN THE MINISTRY OF OUR CHURCHES. SOME BELIEVERS THOUGHT THAT THE DAY OF THE LORD HAD ARRIVED BECAUSE OF THEIR INTENSE PERSECUTION, 4:13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. 15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words. THE DOCTRINE OF THE RETURN OF THE LORD SHOULD HELP US TO LIVE HOLY LIVES. 4:1 Finally then, brethren, we request and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us instruction as to how you ought to walk and please God (just as you actually do walk), that you excel still more. 2 For you know what commandments we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus. 3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality; that 4 each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, 5 not in lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God; 6 and that no man transgress and defraud his brother in the matter because the Lord is the avenger in all these things, just as we also told you before and solemnly warned you. 7 For God has not called us for the purpose of impurity, but in sanctification. HE GOES INTO LAST DAY’S INFORMATION 5:1 Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you. 2 For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. 3 While they are saying, “Peace and safety!” then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape. 4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief; 5 for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness; 6 so then let us not sleep as others do, but let us be alert and sober. 9 For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, HE ALSO CORRECTED SOME OF THE WEAKNESSSES IN THE CHURCH. THE MEMBERS WERE NOT RESPECTING AND HONORING THEIR SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP AS THEY SHOULD. 5:12 But we request of you, brethren, that you appreciate those who diligently labor among you, and have charge over you in the Lord and give you instruction, 13 and that you esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Thessalonians IS A LETTER FROM A SPIRITUAL FATHER TO HIS SPIRITUAL CHILDREN. PAUL ALWAYS PICTURED THE CHURCH AS A FAMILY. THE WORD “BRETHREN” OR “BROTHER” IS USE 19 TIMES IN THE FIRST LETTER AND 9 TIMES IN THE 2ND. 5:16 Rejoice always; 17 pray without ceasing; 18 in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 19 Do not quench the Spirit; 20 do not despise prophetic utterances. 21 But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good; 22 abstain from every form of evil. 23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass. THEME VERSE 1 Thessalonians 5:9 For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 THESSALONIANS This book ties in with the first and also refers to the return of Jesus and our gathering to Him, Tribulation and anti-christ. PAUL WROTE 2 Thessalonians JUST A SHORT TIME LATER TO CORRECT CERTAIN WRONG IDEAS AND WRONG PRACTICES RELATED TO THE DOCTRINE OF THE LORDS RETURN. HE ENCOURAGES THEM IN THEIR PERSECUTION TO KNOW THE FINAL OUTCOME. 2 Thess 1:6 For after all it is only just for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, 7 and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, 8 dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9 These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, 10 when He comes to be glorified in His saints on that day, and to be marveled at among all who have believed—for our testimony to you was believed. 2:1 Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, 2 that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. 3 Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God. 5 Do you not remember that while I was still with you, I was telling you these things? 6 And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed. 7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way. 8 Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming; 9 that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders, 10 and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved. 11 For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false, 12 in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in wickedness. CONTRAST BETWEEN 1 AND 2 THESSALONIANS 1 Thess 4:13-18 2 Thess 1 Christ returns in the air Christ returns to earth He comes secretly for the church He comes openly Believers escape the trib judgment Christ’s return occurs at an undisclosed time Occurs at the end of the Tribulation period – “day of the Lord” THERE ARE TWO ASPECTS OF THE LORDS RETURN: 1) CHRIST WILL COME IN THE AIR FOR HIS CHURCH (1Thess 4:13-18) THIS WILL USHER IN A PERIOD OF TRIBULATION ON THE EARTH. 5:1-3 2) AT THE CLOSE OF THIS PERIOD, HE WILL RETURN TO THE EARTH WITH HIS CHURCH (2 Thess 1:5-10) HE WILL DEFEAT HIS ENEMIES AND SET UP HIS KINGDOM (Rev 19:11) 2 Thess CLARIFIES THE EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE “DAY OF CHRIST” (2:2) JESUS 2ND COMING WILL BRING SALVATION TO CHRISTIANS (2:13) BUT TERRIBLE JUDGMENT TO UNBELIEVERS (1:7-9) PAUL ENCOURAGED THE THESSALONIANS AGAIN AND AGAIN; “DON’T GIVE UP! YOU HAVE THE WORD OF GOD WITHIN YOU, THE PEOPLE OF GOD AROUND YOU, AND THE GLORY OF GOD BEFORE YOU. 3:1 Finally, brethren, pray for us that the word of the Lord will spread rapidly and be glorified, just as it did also with you; 2 and that we will be rescued from perverse and evil men; for not all have faith. 3 But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one. PAUL CLOSES THINGS OUT WITH SOME PRACTICAL INFORMATION 3:6 Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from every brother who leads an unruly life and not according to the tradition which you received from us. 7 For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example, because we did not act in an undisciplined manner among you, 8 nor did we eat anyone’s bread without paying for it, but with labor and hardship we kept working night and day so that we would not be a burden to any of you; 9 not because we do not have the right to this, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you, so that you would follow our example. 10 For even when we were with you, we used to give you this order: if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either. 11 For we hear that some among you are leading an undisciplined life, doing no work at all, but acting like busybodies. 12 Now such persons we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ to work in quiet fashion and eat their own bread (Earn your own living NLT). 13 But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary of doing good. IT’S GOING TO BE GREAT WHEN THE LORD RETURNS BUT IN THE MEAN TIME IF THE BILLS ARE DUE THEY NEED TO BE PAID. THEME VERSES 2 Thess 2:16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace, 17 comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.

Eyes & Ears

Matt 13:11 Jesus answered them, “To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted. 12 For whoever has (AMP Spiritual knowledge), to him more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him. 13 Therefore I speak to them in parables; because while seeing they do not see, and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they (AMP grasp) understand. 15 for the heart of this people has become dull, with their ears they scarcely hear, and they have closed their eyes, otherwise they would see with their eyes, hear with their ears, and understand with their heart and return, and I would heal them.’ JESUS IS REFERING TO PERCEIVING AND UNDERSTANDING YOU WILL NEVER POSSESS SOMETHING THAT SOMEONE ELSE HAS TO UNDERSTAND FOR YOU. FAITH IS ACTION. Rom 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. ACTION IS TO BECOME THE BY PRODUCT OF HEARING. Heb 3:7 Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit says, “today if you hear His voice, 8 do not harden your hearts as when they provoked Me, as in the day of trial in the wilderness, 9 where your fathers tried Me by testing Me, and saw my works for forty years. 10 “Therefore I was angry with this generation, and said, ‘they always go astray in their heart, and they did not know My ways’; 11 as I swore in my wrath, ‘they shall not enter my rest.’” 12 Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God. 13 But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called “Today,” so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. 16 For who provoked Him when they had heard? Indeed, did not all those who came out of Egypt led by Moses? 17 And with whom was He angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? 18 And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who were disobedient? So we see that they were not able to (Possess the promises) enter because of unbelief. PEOPLE WHO HEARD BUT CHOSE NOT TO BELIEVE. THEY BELIEVED THE CIRCUMSTANCES WERE GREATER. 4:1 Therefore, let us fear if, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you may seem to have come short of it. 2 For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard. 3 For we who have believed enter that rest, just as He has said, “AS I SWORE IN MY WRATH, THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST,” although His works were finished from the foundation of the world. 4 For He has said somewhere concerning the seventh day: “AND GOD RESTED ON THE SEVENTH DAY FROM ALL HIS WORKS”; 5 and again in this passage, “THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST.” 6 Therefore, since it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly had good news preached to them failed to enter because of disobedience, 7 He again fixes a certain day, “Today,” saying through David after so long a time just as has been said before, “TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS.” 8 For if Joshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken of another day after that. 9 So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. 10 For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His. 11 Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that no one will fall, through following the same example of disobedience. 12 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. THE CONDITION OF THE HEART IS BIG WHEN IT COMES TO RECEIVING Mark 4 He who has ears to hear, let him hear TPT 9 If you understand this, then you need to respond.” TRUTH ACCEPTED AND UNDERSTOOD BECOMES BREAKTHROUGH TRUTH. Mark 4:8 PRODUCE 30,60, AND 100 FOLD. UNDERSTANDING IS LINKED TO INCREASE! THE PEOPLE WHO PERCEIVE AND UNDERSTAND (WHO GET REVELATION) AND ACT ON IT, MANIFEST A HARVEST. 13 And He *said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? How will you understand all the parables? 14 The sower sows the word. 15 These are the ones who are beside the road where the word is sown; and when they hear, immediately Satan comes and takes away the word which has been sown in them. 16 In a similar way these are the ones on whom seed was sown on the rocky places, who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy; 17 and they have no firm root in themselves, but are only temporary; then, when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, immediately they fall away. 18 And others are the ones on whom seed was sown among the thorns; these are the ones who have heard the word, 19 but the worries of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. 20 And those are the ones on whom seed was sown on the good soil; and they hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold.” Luke 8:15 But the seed in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the word in an honest and good heart, and hold it fast, and bear fruit with perseverance. A PERSON WHO HAS BEEN ENLIGHTENED BY THE WORD MUST BECOME A DOER OF THE WORD. 24 And He was saying to them, “Take care what you listen to. By your standard of measure it will be measured to you; and more will be given you besides. 25 For whoever has, to him more shall be given; and whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him.” TPT 24 Be diligent to understand the meaning behind everything you hear, for as you do, more understanding will be given to you. And according to the depth of your longing to understand, much more will be added to you. 25 For those who listen with open hearts will receive more revelation. AMP 24 Be careful what you are hearing. The measure [of thought and study] you give [to the truth you hear] will be the measure [of virtue and knowledge] that comes back to you—and more [besides] will be given to you who hear. Luke 8:18 So take care how you listen; for whoever has, to him more shall be given; and whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has shall be taken away from him.” 19 And His mother and brothers came to Him, and they were unable to get to Him because of the crowd. 20 And it was reported to Him, “Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, wishing to see You.” 21 But He answered and said to them, “My mother and My brothers are these who hear the word of God and do it.” Luke 11:27 While Jesus was saying these things, one of the women in the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, “Blessed is the womb that bore You and the breasts at which You nursed.” 28 But He said, “On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.” AMP Acts 3:22Thus Moses said to the forefathers, The Lord God will raise up for you a Prophet from among your brethren as [He raised up] me; Him you shall listen to and understand by hearing and heed in all things whatever He tells you. 23 And it shall be that every soul that does not listen to and understand by hearing and heed that Prophet shall be utterly exterminated from among the people. UNDERSTANDING REGULATES RECEIVING. RECEIVING ACCORDING TO YOUR UNDERSTANDING PERTAINS TO ALL SCRIPTURAL TRUTH. 2 Tim 4:1 I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: 2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled (ITCHED), they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, 4 and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths (traditions) MSG They'll turn their backs on truth and chase mirages

AT LYSTRA PAUL MEETS TIMOTHY. TIMOTHY BEGINS TRAVELING WITH PAUL Acts 16:5 So the churches were being strengthened in the faith, and were increasing in number daily. 6 They passed through the Phrygian and Galatian region, having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia; 7 and after they came to Mysia, they were trying to go into Bithynia, and the Spirit of Jesus did not permit them; 8 and passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas. 9 A vision appeared to Paul in the night: a man of Macedonia was standing and appealing to him, and saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” 10 When he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them. PHILIPPIANS PHILIPPIANS IS A PARTNER LETTER. 1:3 I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all, in view of your participation in the gospel from the first day until now. 4:15 You yourselves also know, Philippians, that at the first preaching of the gospel, after I left Macedonia, no church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving but you alone; 16 for even in Thessalonica you sent a gift more than once for my needs. OUR PICTURE OF JESUS IN PHILIPPIANS IS “THE ATTITUDE OF CHRIST” “MIND” IS USED 10 TIMES AND “THINK” 5 TIMES. PHILIPPIANS IS A BOOK OF HUMILITY AND JOY JESUS WAS EXHAULTED BECAUSE HE WAS WILLING TO BE HUMBLE AND WE ARE TOLD TO HAVE THE SAME MIND (ATTITUDE). Philippians 2:2 make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. 3 Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; 4 do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. 5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. 8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name 3:13 Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, have this attitude; and if in anything you have a different attitude, God will reveal that also to you; THIS ATTITUDE IS THE KEY TO WINNING THE RACE - 4 D’S DIVINE DISSATISFACTION (3:12) DEVOTION (3:13) DIRECTION (3:13) DISCIPLINE (3:15,16) 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. COLOSSIANS COLOSSIANS WAS WRITTEN BY PAUL DURING HIS FIRST IMPRISONMENT (60 AD) TO ANSWER SOME IMPORTANT QUESTIONS. It was written to people who looked at their horoscopes for guidance. It was written to answer the relationship between diet and spiritual living. It was also written to show that God speaks to us through His Word. It was written to show that eastern religions have nothing to offer born-again believers. COLOSSE WAS THE MEETING POINT OF THE EAST AND THE WEST. THIS CITY IS NEVER MENTIONED IN THE BOOK OF ACTS BECAUSE PAUL DID NOT START THE COLOSSIAN CHURCH. Col 1:4,9 He had heard of their faith. 2:1 For I want you to know how great a struggle I have on your behalf and for those who are at Laodicea, and for all those who have not personally seen my face, THE CHURCH AT COLOSSE WAS AN OUTGROWTH OF PAUL’S THREE- YEAR MINISTRY IN EPHESUS (Acts 19,20:17-38) DURING PAUL’S MINISTRY AT EPHESUS, AT LEAST TWO MEN FROM COLOSSE WERE BROUGHT TO FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST; EPAPHRAS AND PHILEMON. Col 4:12 Epaphras, who is one of your number, a bondslave of Jesus Christ, sends you his greetings, always laboring earnestly for you in his prayers, that you may stand perfect and fully assured in all the will of God. OUR PICTURE OF JESUS IN COLOSSIANS IS “OUR HOPE OF GLORY” 1:26 the mystery which has been hidden from the past ages and generations, but has now been manifested to His saints, 27 to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. THERE ARE THREE THINGS PAUL WARNS ABOUT; LEST ANY MAN SHOULD BEGUILE YOU (2:4) LEST ANY MAN SPOIL YOU (2:8) LET NO MAN THEREFORE JUDGE YOU (2:16) PAUL’S BOTTOM LINE – FAITH IN CHRIST IS ENOUGH. DON’T ADD ANYTHING ELSE TO IT. (2:10) THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE BOOKS OF EPHESIANS AND COLOSSIANS IS THAT EPHESIANS EMPHASIZES THE BODY OF CHRIST. AND COLOSSIANS EMPHASIZES CHRIST AS THE HEAD OF THE BODY. Ephesians - PAUL EPHASIZES BEING FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT (5:18) Colossians - PAUL EPHASIZES BEING FILLED WITH THE WORD (3:16) THEME VERSE Colossians 1:18 He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything.

Eyes & Ears

October 17, 2021 • Pastor Bracken Christian

Matt 13:11 Jesus answered them, “To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted. 12 For whoever has (AMP Spiritual knowledge), to him more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him. 13 Therefore I speak to them in parables; because while seeing they do not see, and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they (AMP grasp) understand. 15 for the heart of this people has become dull, with their ears they scarcely hear, and they have closed their eyes, otherwise they would see with their eyes, hear with their ears, and understand with their heart and return, and I would heal them.’ UNDERSTANDING IS WHERE WE WANT TO BE! YOU WILL NEVER POSSESS SOMETHING THAT SOMEONE ELSE HAS TO UNDERSTAND FOR YOU. REVELATION IS – Light, Illumination, enlightenment, discernment, and its faith. (THE LOGOS - BECOMES RHEMA…YOU SPEAK IT) - HEART. REQUIREMENTS FOR MORE REVELATION HUMILITY, ESTEEM THE WORD, MINISTRY GIFTS, RELATIONSHIPS AND PRAYER RECOGNIZE THE HOLY SPIRITS INVOLVEMENT. 1 Cor 2:9 but just as it is written, “THINGS WHICH EYE HAS NOT SEEN AND EAR HAS NOT HEARD, AND which HAVE NOT ENTERED THE HEART OF MAN, ALL THAT GOD HAS PREPARED FOR THOSE WHO LOVE HIM.”10 For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. 11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, TPT14 Someone living on an entirely human level rejects the revelations of God’s Spirit, for they make no sense to him. He can’t understand the revelations of the Spirit because they are only discovered by the illumination of the Spirit. John 8:31 If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” TRUTH ACCEPTED AND UNDERSTOOD BECOMES BREAKTHROUGH TRUTH. Mark 4:3 Listen to this! Behold, the sower went out to sow; 4 as he was sowing, some seed fell beside the road, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Other seed fell on the rocky ground where it did not have much soil; and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of soil. 6 And after the sun had risen, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away. 7 Other seed fell among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked it, and it yielded no crop. 8 Other seeds fell into the good soil, and as they grew up and increased, they yielded a crop and produced thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold.” 9 And He was saying, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” NLT 9 “Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.” TPT 9 If you understand this, then you need to respond.” 10 As soon as He was alone, His followers, along with the twelve, began asking Him about the parables. 11 And He was saying to them, “To you has been given the mystery of the kingdom of God, but those who are outside get everything in parables, 12 so that WHILE SEEING, THEY MAY SEE AND NOT PERCEIVE, AND WHILE HEARING, THEY MAY HEAR AND NOT UNDERSTAND, OTHERWISE THEY MIGHT RETURN AND BE FORGIVEN.” NOT ONLY TURN FROM SINS AND BE FORGIVEN BUT PRODUCE 30,60, AND 100 FOLD. (Vs 8) THE PEOPLE WHO PERCEIVE AND UNDERSTAND MANIFEST A HARVEST. 20 And those are the ones on whom seed was sown on the good soil; and they hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold.” MSG 20 the seed planted in the good earth represents those who hear the Word, embrace it (hold it fast), and produce a harvest beyond their wildest dreams. THE SEED IS THE WORD 21 And He was saying to them, “A lamp is not brought to be put under a basket, is it, or under a bed? Is it not brought to be put on the lampstand? 22 For nothing is hidden, except to be revealed; nor has anything been secret, but that it would come to light. 23 If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.” A PERSON WHO HAS BEEN ENLIGHTENED BY THE WORD MUST BECOME A DOER OF THE WORD. 24 And He was saying to them, “Take care what you listen to. By your standard of measure it will be measured to you; and more will be given you besides. 25 For whoever has, to him more shall be given; and whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him.” AMP 24 Be careful what you are hearing. The measure [of thought and study] you give [to the truth you hear] will be the measure [of virtue and knowledge] that comes back to you—and more [besides] will be given to you who hear. TPT 24 Be diligent to understand the meaning behind everything you hear, for as you do, more understanding will be given to you. And according to the depth of your longing to understand, much more will be added to you. 25 For those who listen with open hearts will receive more revelation. UNDERSTANDING REGULATES RECEIVING.

Judging God Faithful

October 13, 2021

But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end. (Hebrews 3:6 KJV) It's not always the lack of genuineness of a person’s faith that prevent them from receiving from God, but that their believing hasn’t grown to the point of being fully persuaded. Abraham didn’t receive the promise until his faith came to the point of what the bible called being “fully persuaded” (Romans 4:21). Faith that is not fully developed will lack the strength to hold fast firm to the end. 8 times we are told in the New Testament that we must “Hold fast” to the promise to the end. Here is another hold fast verse… Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised (Hebrews 10:22-23 KJV) Mrs. Nuzum said this… “The devil is busy trying to take from us what we get from God, and so God bids us hold fast.” Only a strong faith can hold fast to the end, a faith than judges God faithful. Quote: And the Lord said to Peter Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: 32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not:.. (Luke 22:31-32 KJV) There are many harvesting factors but I believe this is the reason most of God’s people don’t receive their harvests. Their faith fails them. In other words, they lack the spiritual strength to carry the promise through to a harvest. Abraham and Sarah are our first and greatest examples of Strong faith: Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised. (Hebrews 11:11,12) To "judge" something is a legal terminology. Other translations say "considered". But to judge something is a much stronger word, it means it is once and for all a settled issue. It cannot be reversed. My faith is rested in that area of my life and I'm not picking it back up. Sarah didn’t always have this strong attitude of faith. Neither did Abraham. Somewhere along the way though they came to the place where they judged God faithful. Before then, she never doubted that God COULD do it, she knew that it was a promise from God But there was a lack of confidence that God WOULD do it. I want you to notice something; Sarah judged God faithful who made the promise before she could have faith for the promise. In other words, Sarah had to believe that God was faithful to His Word before she could have faith in His Word. You see many believers are doing this backwards. They are attempting to have faith in the promises without knowing the person who made those promises. Sarah judged God faithful. When you have faith in a person, faith in their word will come naturally. The bible says here that, “Sarah received strength to conceive…”. Having a strong faith, then means to have the spiritual strength to conceive & bring forth God’s promise in your own life. The same verse, tells us how Sarah received this “strength” or to conceive, “because she judged him faithful who had promised.” This is the step every believer must eventually take in order to experience God’s best in and for and through their own lives. What God promises you isn't just for your benefit. There are people that are depending on you to receive what God has for you,. Faith not to just bless your chickens in the backyard, but faith to change the world!! – Lester Sumrall Now look at verse 12. Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable. (Hebrews 11:12 KJV) “Therefore sprang!” This is a harvest term. And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred. (Mark 4:8 KJV) Your faith needs to come to the place where you can hold fast to the promise long enough for it to spring forth into your life. Galatians 6:9 (KJV) And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. In Hebrews 11:11 we see where Sarah judged God faithful and in Romans 4:21 we see were Abraham judged God faithful: it says he was “fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. In Matthew 8:26 A great storm arose and Jesus rebuked His disciples “why are you so fearful oh ye of little faith”. Notice Jesus did not say they had no faith, He said they had little faith. For some reason, the disciple’s faith had not progressed beyond little. The only reason Jesus would rebuke someone for having little faith is if He knew they should’ve had more. The reason why many fail to receive their harvests is because they're strength is small; their faith has never grown to the point of becoming fully persuaded. Faith is what you believe today. Trust is still believing tomorrow, next month and next year what you believe today. Trusting God means “I believe the promise just as much now as I did when He first spoke it to me”. 13 Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong (1 Corinthians 16:13 KJV) one commentaries definition of quit: To behave oneself with the wisdom and courage of a man, as opposed to a baby or child in Christ.( CWSDict) People can disappoint you and let you down. But we must come to the point that you say God will never let me down. There were times when it looked like it, but he didn’t. He will never disappoint me he will never want to separate himself from me. Hebrews 13:5-6 (KJV) Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. 6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. (TPT) “I will never leave you alone, never! And I will not loosen my grip on your life!” (AMP) Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you norgive you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not,[I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake norlet [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!] Lets look in Genesis 18 After Sarah overheard the angel tell Abraham she would have a baby she laughed in unbelief… Genes 18:12-14 Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also? 13 And the LORD said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old? 14 Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son. Regarding God’s promise, we should always come back to this question, is anything too hard for the Lord? Before we ever make a judgment, ask ourselves, is there anything too hard for God to do? 17 Ah Lord God! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee: (Jeremiah 32:17 KJV) Two questions: what does the word say? And is anything too hard for the Lord? 3 words that best describe when believers have grown to full-grown faith: Or,… 3 byproducts of having judged God faithful, reaching full-grown faith. 1. You find rest when you judge God faithful. Matthew 11:29 take my yoke upon you and you will find rest for your souls. 2. You find peace when you judge God faithful. When you find God’s peace inside of you it is not a feeling. I’m not looking for a feeling, but I am now in harmony with what God has declared that he has done for me. 3. You find joy when you judge God faithful. When you find joy it always comes as a calm delight without the emotions of doubt and fear. It’s when the joy of the Lord becomes your strength. When those three things are operating in your life you can know that you have reached a level of full-grown faith. You’re confident that God will withhold no good thing for them that walk uprightly before him.
