JESUS IS…. NEW TESTAMENT “THE LION” IN MATTHEW “THE OX” IN MARK “THE MAN” IN LUKE “THE EAGLE” IN JOHN “THE CHURCH/BODY OF CHRIST” IN ACTS “THE BUTTERFLY” IN ROMANS “THE SANCTIFER” IN 1st CORINTHIANS “THE YES AND AMEN” IN 2ND CORINTHIANS “THE CRUCIFIED CHRIST” IN GALATIANS “RAISED & SEATED WITH HIM” IN EPHESIANS “THE MIND OF CHRIST” IN PHILIPPIANS “OUR HOPE OF GLORY” IN COLOSSIANS (47 PICTURES SO FAR) 1 THESSALONIANS THE MAIN SUBJECT OF THESE LETTERS IS THE CATCHING AWAY OF THE CHURCH AND THE RETURN OF THE LORD. OUR PICTURE OF JESUS IN 1 & 2 THESSALONIANS IS “THE BELIEVERS SALVATION” 1 Thess 5:9 For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him. BACK IN PAULS DAY THE POPULATION WAS AROUND 200K MOSTLY GREEKS AND SOME ROMANS AND A STRONG JEWISH MINORITY. PAUL EVENTUALLY REACHED THESSALONICA AND MINISTERED IN THE SYNAGOGUE FOR 3 SABBATHS AND THE LORD WORKED IN POWER. (ACTS 17:1-9) HE LEFT BEHIND A THRIVING CHURCH. IT WAS WHEN TIMOHTY REJOINED PAUL AT CORINTH AND GAVE HIM THE REPORT ON THE NEW CHURCH THAT PAUL WROTE 1 Thessalonians. THESE TWO LETTERS TO THE THESSALONIANS REVEAL THE PROPHETICAL AND THE PRACTICAL. THE THESSALONIANS WERE A FAITH BUNCH! 1 Thess 1:2 We give thanks to God always for all of you, making mention of you in our prayers; 3 constantly bearing in mind your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the presence of our God and Father, 6 You also became imitators of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much tribulation with the joy of the Holy Spirit, 7 so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. 8 For the word of the Lord has sounded forth from you, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith toward God has gone forth, so that we have no need to say anything. 9 For they themselves report about us what kind of a reception we had with you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve a living and true God, 10 and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, that is Jesus, who rescues us from the wrath to come. 3:11 Now may our God and Father Himself and Jesus our Lord direct our way to you; 12 and may the Lord cause you to increase and abound in love for one another, and for all people, just as we also do for you; 13 so that He may establish your hearts without blame in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all His saints. PAUL INSISTED THAT THE DOCTRINE OF THE RETURN OF JESUS CHRIST MUST BE MORE THAN A DOCTRINE. IT MUST BE DYNAMIC IN OUR LIVES AND IN THE MINISTRY OF OUR CHURCHES. SOME BELIEVERS THOUGHT THAT THE DAY OF THE LORD HAD ARRIVED BECAUSE OF THEIR INTENSE PERSECUTION, 4:13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. 15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words. THE DOCTRINE OF THE RETURN OF THE LORD SHOULD HELP US TO LIVE HOLY LIVES. 4:1 Finally then, brethren, we request and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us instruction as to how you ought to walk and please God (just as you actually do walk), that you excel still more. 2 For you know what commandments we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus. 3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality; that 4 each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, 5 not in lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God; 6 and that no man transgress and defraud his brother in the matter because the Lord is the avenger in all these things, just as we also told you before and solemnly warned you. 7 For God has not called us for the purpose of impurity, but in sanctification. HE GOES INTO LAST DAY’S INFORMATION 5:1 Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you. 2 For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. 3 While they are saying, “Peace and safety!” then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape. 4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief; 5 for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness; 6 so then let us not sleep as others do, but let us be alert and sober. 9 For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, HE ALSO CORRECTED SOME OF THE WEAKNESSSES IN THE CHURCH. THE MEMBERS WERE NOT RESPECTING AND HONORING THEIR SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP AS THEY SHOULD. 5:12 But we request of you, brethren, that you appreciate those who diligently labor among you, and have charge over you in the Lord and give you instruction, 13 and that you esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Thessalonians IS A LETTER FROM A SPIRITUAL FATHER TO HIS SPIRITUAL CHILDREN. PAUL ALWAYS PICTURED THE CHURCH AS A FAMILY. THE WORD “BRETHREN” OR “BROTHER” IS USE 19 TIMES IN THE FIRST LETTER AND 9 TIMES IN THE 2ND. 5:16 Rejoice always; 17 pray without ceasing; 18 in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 19 Do not quench the Spirit; 20 do not despise prophetic utterances. 21 But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good; 22 abstain from every form of evil. 23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass. THEME VERSE 1 Thessalonians 5:9 For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 THESSALONIANS This book ties in with the first and also refers to the return of Jesus and our gathering to Him, Tribulation and anti-christ. PAUL WROTE 2 Thessalonians JUST A SHORT TIME LATER TO CORRECT CERTAIN WRONG IDEAS AND WRONG PRACTICES RELATED TO THE DOCTRINE OF THE LORDS RETURN. HE ENCOURAGES THEM IN THEIR PERSECUTION TO KNOW THE FINAL OUTCOME. 2 Thess 1:6 For after all it is only just for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, 7 and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, 8 dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9 These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, 10 when He comes to be glorified in His saints on that day, and to be marveled at among all who have believed—for our testimony to you was believed. 2:1 Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, 2 that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. 3 Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God. 5 Do you not remember that while I was still with you, I was telling you these things? 6 And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed. 7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way. 8 Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming; 9 that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders, 10 and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved. 11 For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false, 12 in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in wickedness. CONTRAST BETWEEN 1 AND 2 THESSALONIANS 1 Thess 4:13-18 2 Thess 1 Christ returns in the air Christ returns to earth He comes secretly for the church He comes openly Believers escape the trib judgment Christ’s return occurs at an undisclosed time Occurs at the end of the Tribulation period – “day of the Lord” THERE ARE TWO ASPECTS OF THE LORDS RETURN: 1) CHRIST WILL COME IN THE AIR FOR HIS CHURCH (1Thess 4:13-18) THIS WILL USHER IN A PERIOD OF TRIBULATION ON THE EARTH. 5:1-3 2) AT THE CLOSE OF THIS PERIOD, HE WILL RETURN TO THE EARTH WITH HIS CHURCH (2 Thess 1:5-10) HE WILL DEFEAT HIS ENEMIES AND SET UP HIS KINGDOM (Rev 19:11) 2 Thess CLARIFIES THE EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE “DAY OF CHRIST” (2:2) JESUS 2ND COMING WILL BRING SALVATION TO CHRISTIANS (2:13) BUT TERRIBLE JUDGMENT TO UNBELIEVERS (1:7-9) PAUL ENCOURAGED THE THESSALONIANS AGAIN AND AGAIN; “DON’T GIVE UP! YOU HAVE THE WORD OF GOD WITHIN YOU, THE PEOPLE OF GOD AROUND YOU, AND THE GLORY OF GOD BEFORE YOU. 3:1 Finally, brethren, pray for us that the word of the Lord will spread rapidly and be glorified, just as it did also with you; 2 and that we will be rescued from perverse and evil men; for not all have faith. 3 But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one. PAUL CLOSES THINGS OUT WITH SOME PRACTICAL INFORMATION 3:6 Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from every brother who leads an unruly life and not according to the tradition which you received from us. 7 For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example, because we did not act in an undisciplined manner among you, 8 nor did we eat anyone’s bread without paying for it, but with labor and hardship we kept working night and day so that we would not be a burden to any of you; 9 not because we do not have the right to this, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you, so that you would follow our example. 10 For even when we were with you, we used to give you this order: if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either. 11 For we hear that some among you are leading an undisciplined life, doing no work at all, but acting like busybodies. 12 Now such persons we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ to work in quiet fashion and eat their own bread (Earn your own living NLT). 13 But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary of doing good. IT’S GOING TO BE GREAT WHEN THE LORD RETURNS BUT IN THE MEAN TIME IF THE BILLS ARE DUE THEY NEED TO BE PAID. THEME VERSES 2 Thess 2:16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace, 17 comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.

Mindsets For Success
January 19, 2022
Be A Better You in 22 Dress for Success. 1. Know your strengths. Psa. 139:13 For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. Psa. 139:14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. 2. Be Ambitious. Phil. 3:13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, Phil. 3:14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 2Tim. 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 3. Be Positive. Gal. 6:9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Prov. 4:18 But the path of the just is like the shining sun, That shines ever brighter unto the perfect day. Psa. 37:23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way. Phil. 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. 4. Be Organized. 5. Be constantly learning. Phil 4:11 AMP Not that I m implying that I was in any personal want, for I have LEARNED HOW TO BE CONTENT (satisfied to the point where I am not disturbed or disquieted) in whatever state I am. 1 Tim 4:8 AMP For physical training is of some value (useful for a little), but godliness (spiritual training) is useful and of value in everything and in every way for it holds promise for the present life and also for the life which is to come. 6. Have a Strong Support System. Proverbs 20:6 AMP Many a man proclaims his own loving kindness and goodness, but a faithful man, who can find? Prov. 18:24 A man who has friends must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. 7. Know failure and success go together.

Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Matt 8 A LEAPER ASKED, IF YOU ARE WILLING YOU CAN MAKE ME WHOLE... Lev 14 THE DETAILS FOR THE OFFERING OF HEALING FOR A LEAPER. Mark 1 PETERS MOTHER IN LAW AND MANY CAME FROM ALL OVER TO BE HEALED... HE HEALED THEM ALL Luke 4:40 While the sun was setting, all those who had any who were sick with various diseases brought them to Him; and laying His hands on each one of them, He was healing them. John 4 A ROYAL OFFICAL WHO’S SON WAS SICK CAME TO JESUS AND ASKED FOR HELP. JESUS SAID, GO YOUR WAY YOU SON LIVES. AND THE MAN BELIEVED HIS WORD. JESUS IS A HEALING JESUS THE GREEK WORD SALVATION AND THE WORD HEALED ARE THE SAME. (AN ALL-INCLUSIVE WORD HE CAME TO DESTROY THE WORKS OF THE DEVIL 1John 3:8 The Son of God appeared (was manifest) for this purpose, that He might destroy the works of the devil. JESUS WAS THE WILL OF GOD IN ACTION Acts 10:38 “You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good, and healing all who were oppressed by the devil; for God was with Him. Isaiah 53:1Who has believed our message? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? YLT Isaiah 53:3 He is despised, and left of men, A man of pains, and acquainted with sickness, And as one hiding the face from us, He is despised, and we esteemed him not. 4 Surely our sicknesses he hath borne, And our pains--he hath carried them, And we--we have esteemed him plagued, Smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 And he is pierced for our transgressions, Bruised for our iniquities, The chastisement of our peace [is] on him, And by his bruise there is healing to us. Matt 8:16 When evening came, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed; and He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were ill. 17 This was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet: “HE HIMSELF TOOK OUR INFIRMITIES AND CARRIED AWAY OUR DISEASES.” HEALING IS NOT A RESULT OF WHAT WE CAN DO. IT’S A RESULT OF WHAT JESUS HAS ALREADY DONE. 1 Pet 2:24 and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed. ONE OF THE OLD TESTAMENT REDEMPTIVE NAMES OF GOD IS “JEHOVA RAPHA” THE LORD OUR HEALER (Exodus 15:26). John 3:14 As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life. Numbers 21 GOD COMMANDED MOSES TO CONSTRUCT A BRONZE SERPENT AND PLACE IT ON A POLE... THIS WAS A TYPE AND SHADOW OF JESUS TAKING THE CURSE OF SIN AND SICKNESS UPON HIMSELF. Gal 3:13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us—for it is written, “CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO HANGS ON A TREE”— 14 in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we would receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Psalm 107:2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the adversary 20 He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions. Psalm 103:1 Bless the LORD, O my soul, And all that is within me, bless His holy name. 2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget none of His benefits; 3 Who pardons all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases; 4 Who redeems your life from the pit, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and compassion; 5 Who satisfies your years with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle. John 6 JESUS REFERRED TO HIMSELF SEVERAL TIMES AS THE BREAD OF LIFE.

NAS 2 Cor 3:18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit. THE NEED FOR TRANSFORMATION CHANGE SHOULD BE AN ONGOING EXPERIENCE. A PROGRESSIVE EVENT HERE... “FROM GLORY TO GLORY” CHANGE / TRANSFORMATION IS SOMETHING THAT WON’T HAPPEN UNLESS WE ACTIVELY PURSUE IT. 3 TYPES OF CHANGE – “HAPPENS TO US, HAPPENS AROUND US AND THOSE WE MAKE HAPPEN” WITHOUT CHANGE YOU STAGNATE. WITHOUT ONGOING TRANSFORMATION GOD CAN’T PROMOTE HIS PURPOSE IN OUR LIVES. THERE ARE TWO WAYS THE WORD REQUIRES US TO CHANGE 2 LEVELS OF CHANGE THAT HAVE TO OCCUR IT BEGINS WITH THE RENEWING OF THE MIND. KJV 2 Cor 5:17 therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROCESS – WE NEVER ARRIVE… NLT Rom 12:2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. THE MOMENT YOU BECOME A CHRISTIAN, CHANGE IS MANDATED BY GOD WHEN WE GET SAVED, WE NOW HAVE FOR THE FIRST TIME THE CAPACITY TO CHANGE! PAUL CALLS THIS; PUTTING ON THE NEW MAN! THE FIRST INDICATOR THAT WE HAVE REALLY MADE A COMMITMENT TO THE LORD IS THAT THINGS BEGIN TO CHANGE BECAUSE WE UNDERSTAND THE NEED TO TAKE CERTAIN STEPS IN OUR LIFE TOWARD CHANGE. NAS Rom 7:15 for that which I am doing, I do not understand; for I am not practicing what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate. 16 But if I do the very thing I do not wish to do, I agree with the law, confessing that it is good. 17 So now, no longer am I the one doing it, but sin which indwells me. 18 For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh; for the wishing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not. 19 For the good that I wish, I do not do; but I practice the very evil that I do not wish. 22 For I joyfully concur with the law of god in the inner man, 23 but I see a different law in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind, and making me a prisoner of the law of sin which is in my members. 24 Wretched man that I am! who will set me free from the body of this death? 25 Thanks be to god through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind am serving the law of god, but on the other, with my flesh the law of sin. THE LAW OF THE MIND IS THIS; WHAT WE MEDITATE ON IS WHAT PRODUCES BEHAVIOR. JOSH 1:8, GEN 11 YOUR MIND HAS THE CAPACITY TO PRODUCE IMAGERY CONSISTENT WITH YOUR DESIRE AND THAT GIVES LIFE, DIRECTION, MOTIVATION AND MOMENTUM. IT’S A “LAW”! THE LAW OF THE MIND IS THIS; “THE THINGS YOU IMAGINE TO DO IS WHAT YOU WILL DO” NAS Rom 8:5 For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the spirit, the things of the spirit. 6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the spirit is life and peace, 7 because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of god, for it is not even able to do so; 8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. Josh 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success. THE LAW OF THE MIND IS THE WAY WE OVERCOME THE TENDANCY TO DO WRONG! WE’VE GOT TO BEGIN THINKING ON THE RIGHT THING! WRONG BEHAVIOR IS ALWAYS ROOTED IN WRONG THINKING! AMP 2 Cor 3:18 and all of us, as with unveiled face, [because we] continued to behold [in the word of God] as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are constantly being transfigured into His very own image in ever increasing splendor and from one degree of glory to another; [for this comes] from the Lord [who is] the Spirit. THE WORD ALTERS OUR BEHAVIOR. KJV Eph 4:23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 and that you put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. PUT GOD’S THOUGHTS IN YOUR MIND. ISAIAH 55:8-9 THINK ON THE WORD TILL IT ALTERS YOUR BEHAVIOR IN EVERY AREA. MARRIAGE, SELF, WORK, FINANCES, HEALTH, RELATIONSHIPS KJV Phil 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. CHANGE BEGINS BY PUTTING THE WORD OF GOD IN YOUR MIND
