For Unto Us

Emmanuel

December 24, 2023 • Rev. Wendy Jones

On Christmas Eve, we gather to sing our favorite songs; to hear the familiar story of Jesus’ birth, and we celebrate with candlelight. But the meaning of Christmas is bigger and more powerful than the most beautiful worship service we can imagine. The best part of Christmas is wrapped up in the name given to Jesus long before He was born. Emmanuel which literally means “God with us”. What does it mean that Jesus was and is Emmanuel and how can knowing Jesus as Emmanuel change us and our everyday lives?

Everlasting Father

December 10, 2023 • Rev. Jason Mincey • Isaiah 9:6

Of all the names in Isaiah 9:6 for the Messiah, “Everlasting Father” is perhaps the hardest one for us to get our minds around. Especially when we think of the baby lying in that Bethlehem manger. So what was Isaiah trying to tell us here? How might coming to know Jesus as Everlasting Father affect how we move through Advent, and how we grow in our faith?

Mighty God

December 3, 2023 • Rev. Wendy Jones

Jesus is a Wonderful Counselor – available to us 24/7. Always ready with whatever is needed. A shoulder to cry on, a word of encouragement or guidance where we need it most. But Jesus is also Mighty God –mighty as in big, powerful and other than you and I. Mighty God as in equal with God in power, knowledge and wisdom. This week we will explore what it means that Jesus was and is Mighty God. And how knowing Jesus as Mighty God can change us and our experience of Advent and Christmas.

Wonderful Counselor

November 26, 2023 • Rev. Wendy Jones • Isaiah 9:6

Our names tell a powerful story because they represent who we are and a part of our story. Hundreds of years before Jesus was born, God promised the world a Savior who would be called a lot of different names. Every name of Jesus conveys and reflects his character, his power, his purpose and the impact of his life on humanity. This week we will explore what it means that Jesus was and is a Wonderful Counselor. And how knowing Jesus as Wonderful Counselor can change us and our experience of Advent and Christmas.
