Finding Freedom

Freedom from Perfectionism

July 30, 2023 • Rev. Wendy Jones • Luke 10:38–42

Perfectionism is an internal drive to be and do everything perfectly. This is an impossible task, but our tendency to strive for or expect perfection in others causes havoc in our hearts and lives. Perfectionism holds us hostage to pride, insecurity, exhaustion, and damages how we see ourselves and the people around us. But freedom is possible.  Freedom is found in knowing that we are loved not for what we do (perfectly or imperfectly) but for who we are and because God is always good.

Freedom from Bitterness

July 23, 2023 • Rev. Diane Ward • James 3:1–12

Sometimes something upsets us and instead of accepting it or letting go, we let it take root in our heart and we develop bitterness. When bitterness lingers, we can become angry, say harmful things, and engage in non-Christ like behaviors. On Sunday, we will explore what causes bitterness, the effects of bitterness, and how the Bible helps us break free from it.

Freedom from Anxiety & Fear

July 16, 2023 • Rev. Jason Mincey • 2 Timothy 1:7

Everybody worries. Everyone feels anxious at times.  We’re all afraid of something, because we’re all human.  But as God’s people, we are not called to live in constant anxiety and fear.  Jesus came not only to give us eternal life, but to set us free here and now to live life to the full.  If that’s true, then why does fear still dominate the thoughts and lives of so many believers?  On Sunday, we’ll explore what it is that we’re really afraid of, and we’ll see what the Bible has to say about how we can live courageously and joyfully.

Freedom from Shame

July 9, 2023 • Rev. Wendy Jones • John 10:10, Colossians 1:13–14, Ephesians 1:5, Zephaniah 3:17

Shame causes us to hide and convinces us that we have no value. Shame harms the way that we think about ourselves and damages our relationships with others. Shame holds us captive and prevents us from experiencing the abundant life promised by Jesus. But Jesus wants to replace the lies of shame with the truth that is found in what God says about us.

Freedom from Sin

July 2, 2023 • Rev. Wendy Jones • Romans 6:1–11

As followers of Jesus, we are offered new, abundant life, over and over. This life comes with freedom from sin and anything that holds us back from knowing and living in God’s love. Any conversation about finding freedom in Jesus – starts and ends with freedom from sin.
