This episode is our introduction to our new series entitled “The Christ”. After Jesus’ resurrection, he sat down with his disciples and took them through the Scriptures to help them make sense of who he was and what he was accomplishing. And so, this is something that I want to try and do for you. Like Jesus did with his disciples, I want to take you through the Old Testament and hit on a few key figures that will hopefully help open up our minds to understanding who Jesus is and what he has accomplished. In this series, we are going to look at five different different characters from the Old Testament story and see how their stories foreshadow what would eventually be fulfilled in Jesus the Christ. How is the story of Adam intimately connected to the story of Jesus? This is the first full episode in a five-part series entitled “The Christ” where we are looking at five different different characters from the Old Testament and seeing how their stories foreshadow what would eventually be fulfilled in Jesus the Christ. The New Testament is declaring that Jesus is a new human-priest-king like Adam… but better. Jesus has shown us a new way to be human and his presence with us and his Spirit within us changes us and restores us back into being the images of God that we were intended to be from the very beginning. How is the story of Abraham intimately connected to the story of Jesus? This is the second full episode in a five-part series entitled “The Christ” where we are looking at five different different characters from the Old Testament and seeing how their stories foreshadow what would eventually be fulfilled in Jesus the Christ. God initiated a rescue plan to restore his blessing to his creation through the family of Abraham. This is the third full episode in a five-part series entitled “The Christ” where we are looking at five different different characters from the Old Testament and seeing how their stories foreshadow what would eventually be fulfilled in Jesus the Christ. God’s plan is to have a people for himself and to give his people wisdom for how to live as a community that shows the rest of the world what he is like. This is the fourth full episode in a five-part series entitled “The Christ” where we are looking at five different different characters from the Old Testament and seeing how their stories foreshadow what would eventually be fulfilled in Jesus the Christ. God’s plan was to raise up a king from the family of David who will finally conquer evil and who will rule over the entire world forever. Jesus came to fulfill that plan by giving his life as a sacrifice for human sin and by defeating death itself and by being resurrected to the right hand of God as the King over the entire creation. God’s plan is to set up his own kingdom made up of people from all nations that will overcome all the other kingdoms of this world and never be destroyed. Jesus came to fulfill that plan, and he now sits at the right hand of God inviting people to turn from the way of this world and to follow him and to once again rule over this world with him in a renewed partnership with God.
