With only one week until Christmas, we don’t have much longer to wait for family, food, celebrations, presents. But for many of us, Christmas Day or even the end of the year does not mean the end of our waiting. Perhaps you’re waiting for God to answer some really big prayers. Maybe you’re waiting for God to prove that he is in fact real. Maybe you’re waiting to feel better or for a break. You may be waiting for a job, or a spouse, or answers to questions. Even if we’re not waiting for Christmas, we’re all waiting for something. What should we do while we wait? The story of Simeon answers that question.

Today we start a new series as we enter into this ADVENT season. “Advent” literally means “the arrival of a notable person or thing”. So, for Christ followers, Advent is this time in the church calendar where we wait. Where we prepare our hearts in expectation for Christmas. In advent the church stands between two proclamations: “The Lord has come”, and “Come lord Jesus”. The first grounds our confidence that the second will be answered. Over the next few weeks we are going to be looking at 3 biblical characters who were preparing for the arrival of Jesus… Mary, Joseph, and Simeon. Today Tom takes a look at the story of Joseph.
