You Represent Jesus

June 30, 2024 • Jonathan Schaeffer • 2 Corinthians 5:20, Romans 12:9–10, James 1:19–20

In this message, we reflected on the profound privilege of being called ambassadors of Jesus.

We explored the concept of a "pyrrhic victory," where winning an argument or battle results in a significant loss, including our relationships. This is particularly relevant in our current polarized climate, where political and social disagreements can fracture relationships. As followers of Christ, we must prioritize love and unity over winning arguments. Our identity as ambassadors of Christ means we represent Him in all interactions, emphasizing love, humility, and respect.

2 Corinthians 5:20 reminds us that we are Christ's ambassadors, representing Him and His kingdom. This identity should shape our actions and interactions, making us mindful of how we engage with others, especially in disagreements. Romans 12 provides practical guidance on living out this ambassadorship: loving sincerely, honoring others, being patient, and blessing those who are difficult or in disagreement with us.

We are encouraged to treat each person as a treasure created by God, honor others by asking thoughtful questions, monitor our intake of media, recognize the power of our words, and give respect even when it is undeserved. By doing so, we avoid pyrrhic victories and instead build relationships that reflect Christ's love and grace.
