[RW&C] - Emily Ishiki from REST

May 9, 2021

From Race, Whiteness and the Church class 2020-2021 This week, Emily Ishiki from REST (Real Escape from the Sex Trade) will join us to share about the mission of the organization and the people they serve. We'll talk about how dynamics of race and gender impact the realities of the sex trade and learn about the work REST is doing to restore hope to people who have experienced trauma from trafficking in our city. We hope to discover how we can grow in our partnership with REST as a part of our continuing efforts to serve and love our city.

[RW&C] - Leonetta Elaiho

November 22, 2020

From Race, Whiteness and the Church class 2020-2021 Leonetta will speak to us about her experience being black in dominant culture spaces. She is a creative contemplative, a writer, and a public theologian that thrives at the intersection of culture, faith and justice. The arc of her work has always bent towards the margins and her desire for radical inclusion of the typically excluded. Leonetta completed the Soul Formation Academy of Spiritual Formation in 2016 and the School of Spiritual Direction program in June 2019. She has been serving as a Spiritual Director since that time. During the hour this Sunday, we will listen as Leonetta offers a personal reflection rooted in her story and experiences of being black in dominant culture spaces. We will also participate in a brief reflective examen prayer on racial justice, followed by a community conversation.
