What is the meaning or purpose of life? In this passage from Philippians 1, Paul declares that “to live is Christ and to die is gain,” in response to a real situation where he could lose his life for being a follower of Jesus. The Philippian church needed to hear this truth as they were facing persecution, and we need this reminder as we battle the lies of a culture that tells us to live only for ourselves.
