Shadow of the Cross

SHADOW OF THE CROSS Pt.6 - Were You There?

April 9, 2017 • Senior Pastor Armin Sommer

Who should get the blame for Jesus’ crucifixion? Some pin it on Judas.

SHADOW OF THE CROSS Pt.5 - The Cup

April 2, 2017 • Senior Pastor Armin Sommer • Mark 14:32–42

Up till Gethsemane Jesus displays confidence, authority, and fearlessness. • Authoritatively casts out demons with a word. • Boldly confronts hypocritical relig leaders. • Fearlessly walks on water. • Tenderly touches & heals people with leprosy. But at Gethsemane on the eve of his crucifixion, he seems different. Why? Because he’s about to drink from a cup so we could drink from a different one.

SHADOW OF THE CROSS Pt.4 - Check Your Bags

March 26, 2017 • Senior Pastor Armin Sommer • Romans 8:1–2, Luke 7

Condemnation is like a 50 lb piece of luggage we carry around. Even if we have nowhere to go. What are we supposed to do with that? The solution is to understand what the cross of Jesus Christ has done for us.

SHADOW OF THE CROSS Pt.3 - Satisfied

March 19, 2017 • Senior Pastor Armin Sommer • Romans 3:21–26

Today’s message is one of the most difficult parts of this series because it deals squarely with an issue we gently touched last week: God’s wrath. As one contemporary commentator recently stated, “The doctrine of the wrath of God has fallen on hard times. In today’s world, any concept of God’s wrath upsets our modern sentiments. It’s too disconcerting, too intolerant.” And for those who regard God’s wrath as “so OT”, the NT is not shy it. John 3:36 (NIV) "Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them." If we receive Jesus as Savior & Lord, we must also receive what He and His apostles taught about wrath.

SHADOW OF THE CROSS Pt.2 - Why the Cross?

March 12, 2017 • Senior Pastor Armin Sommer • Isaiah 53

Isaiah 53 is one of the best places to reflect on the meaning of Christ’s death. It’s as if the prophet penned these words beneath the cross itself. The answer to our question is wrapped up in the following (Big Idea): It was on the cross that One who was utterly undeserving of wrath suffered on behalf of those who utterly deserved hell.

SHADOW OF THE CROSS Pt.1 - The Great Paradox

March 5, 2017 • Senior Pastor Armin Sommer • Mark 15:15–24

It is on the cross that atonement for sin took place. It was to the cross that our own bill of charges was nailed and upon which was then overwritten the phrase, “Paid in full.” The resurrection proved our justification, but the cross provided the payment. Over the coming weeks we will linger in the shadow of the cross.
