We start with the view of God's sovereignty, where he is in charge and everything that's happening is what he is doing. But that doesn't mean we don't pray—the fact of God's sovereignty doesn't discourage prayer. Really, why would you pray to him if he wasn't sovereign?

Culture can influence us positively, but criticizing our culture is a necessary Christian responsibility—otherwise we'll just end up imitating it. Jesus prayed that we would be in the world but not of it. This requires our minds to be shaped by the truth of the Bible and then to bring that lens to our culture.
