Rescued from Powerless to Powerful

This week we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit as it was given to Jesus’ disciples at Pentecost. The disciples are all together in one place and after receiving the Holy Spirit they are empowered to take the message of Jesus to the streets. They leave the safety and comfort of their home and powerfully speak to the truth of who Jesus is and what He has done. This week, like the early disciples, we are empowered and encouraged through the good news that we also have been rescued from a powerless life and have been given a powerful life…empowered by the same Holy Spirit to carry on the same mission of Jesus to this world.

Rescued from Death to Life

Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 15 that the last enemy to be destroyed will be death itself. In the resurrection of Jesus, we know that death has most certainly been defeated; and yet, until the day Jesus returns, we will live in the shadow of that enemy. This week we will be encouraged and empowered to not live our lives in the shadow of death but in the shadow of the cross and empty tomb. Jesus came to give us life in abundance and through His death and resurrection He has rescued us from death to life…now and always.
