Grace-Full

October 9, 2022 • Pastor Ben Johnson

In the book “Love Like That” Dr Les Parrott says, “You can’t study the life of Jesus and avoid life-altering grace. He is the personification of grace. He acknowledges the ugliness of sin but chooses to see beyond it. In each of the four gospels, Jesus radiates grace not only in his teachings but in his life.” This week we focus on the love of Jesus that was grace-full. Few stories encapsulate the grace-full nature of Jesus than the love He gave to this sinful woman who had been caught in adultery. As Christians we have been called to Love Like That as we live a life of love that is full of grace for others just as Jesus is full of grace for us.

Self-Giving

In the book “Love Like That” Dr Les Parrott says, “Jesus tells the disciples they must follow his example with each other. They must become like servants, setting aside concern for position and privilege. They must place others above themselves. Through footwashing, Jesus unforgettably shows that service, not status, is what he’s about.” This week we focus on the love of Jesus that is self-giving and sacrificial in nature. Today we look at this timeless story of Jesus taking the form of a servant and washing His disciples feet. What an amazing display of self-giving love and as Christians we have been called to Love Like That as we live a life of love that is focused on the love of God and the love of others.

Bold

In the book “Love Like That” Dr Les Parrott says, “when you are genuine, when you are true to your convictions, it shows. You speak up. You make a difference. People respect you--even if they disagree. They know you live not by what “feels right” but what is right.” This week we focus on the love of Jesus that was bold. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life and many times he had to boldly shine His light to reveal the darkness of others. Martha was diligent and focused in her service but in her focus she tried to take away from Mary the only thing that was necessary for Mary at that time. Jesus boldly had to step in and speak the truth in love to Martha. As Christians we have been called to Love Like That as we live a life of love that is bold as we live “not for just what feels right but we live for what is right”.
