The Example of Abraham

October 24, 2021 • Henry Lokay

"Pardoned people are the only blessed people. The sentiments of the world are, Those are happy that have a clear estate, and are out of debt to man; but the sentence of the word is, Those are happy that have their debts to God discharged. O how much therefore is it our interest to make it sure to ourselves that our sins are pardoned! For this is the foundation of all other benefits. So and so I will do for them; for I will be merciful, Heb 8:12." - Matthew Henry

An Announcement of Judgement

April 21, 2024 • Henry Lokay • Isaiah 1:21–26

"Those that should restrain thieves (proud and rich oppressors, those worst of robbers, and those that designedly cheat their creditors, who are no better), are themselves companions of thieves, connive at them, do as they do, and with greater security and success, because they are princes, and have power in their hands; they share with the thieves they protect in their unlawful gain and cast in their lot among them, The profit of their places is all their aim, to make the best hand they can of them, right or wrong. They love gifts, and follow after rewards; they set their hearts upon their salary, the fees and perquisites of their offices, and are greedy of them, and never think they can get enough; nay, they will do any thing, though ever so contrary to law and justice, for a gift in secret. Presents and gratuities will blind their eyes at any time, and make them pervert judgment." - Matthew Henry

"God does not contend with us as though he wished to pursue our sins to the utmost. There is hope, but in God's way, not ours." - Calvin

The Heart of the Matter

"When sinners are under the judgments of God they will more easily be brought to fly to their devotions than to forsake their sins and reform their lives." Matthew Henry
